Screen Saver

by Vtor - Compo Entry

Inspired (vaguely) by the GameBoy Color's Zelda minigames comes Screen Saver!
The colors keep changing, drag the coins to an area that matches the outer color to keep earning points.
The inner color show your coin level, the higher the level the more you will earn from that coin, if the level drops bellow bronze the coin is lost.

Half way through I realized this is a mobile game, but support for mobile devices is wacky. Maybe sometime I'll make it an standalone app.

Everything in Screen Saver was coded: logic, graphics and sound. Made with pure Javascript and several Google searches.
Give it a try.

Included is a music mode, just to play with the blips and blops.

Tested on Safari 8.0 and FireFox 36.
There are differences between the browsers, on Safari the sound is better, but sometimes it gets crazy.
The font I am using is Futura, and I have a feeling it will bug anywhere else, never used this kind of thing before.

The screenshots are outdated, but I'm too tired to fix them now.

Good game! I like your dynamic sound effects, but they were perhaps a tad annoying after a while. Glad you put a mute there :D Fun little game! Good job.

I think if this was on mobile, and it was faster, and had multiple coins on the screen at once, it could be challenging and quite fun!

I like it! At first it was a bit slow, but when a second piece appeared the pace became much better.

Haha, I love the sound effects. I wasn't sure exactly how to win or lose, but I enjoyed trying to figure it out.

Nice, addictive game, but after a while, the outer color didn't change, and the game just got easy and boring.

Simple yet fun, so great to play if you're wasting some time to wait. :D

Like the dynamic sounds, very energetic. I think it could be better if you make it harder.

Cool concept, though I think the game isn't really hard enough to be fun. If the playthroughs went by quicker it would be a lot more compelling of a game, but as it stands getting through until I lose is really just a chore.

Thanks for the feedback on the difficulty, I tried to make it harder, but I think it wasn't enough.
Also, how could I forget a mute button!? I think I liked the sounds too much.

You know, as simple as the background music is, I really like it :) I also like the sound for moving stuff around. Overall a neat game, and I agree this would be sweet on mobile

The sound is a bit awful, but the theme and the idea is very creative. Maybe a bit more depth for the gameplay will help to improve it, good entry!

Fantastic audio.

Cool concept. I feel there should be more of and effect when the player gets points from a matching coin. Like the coin should explode and then put down a new random coin somewhere else. Also, I think having a separate inner color on the coin just adds additional confusion.

-Audio is full of clicks which makes the mood pretty unpleasant :(
-Hard to tell when I was doing the right thing because sometimes there were no matching color :(
-Pretty weird concept for a game, I like that :)

Love it. The game is well made and I like the way the game accommodates for your skill level with the extra coins when you're doing well but still gets faster. Your take on the theme is cool and the audio works nicely.

Nice sounds, it make me think in Atari times. It is simple but i like it.

hahah. Awesome. This was oddly satisfying. It was a bit confusing deailg with the 2 & then 3 coins at once, but that made it more fun. I wish the difficuly ramped up more over time, as I stopped because i was' done' instead of 'game-overing' All around fun entry though.

Hi there. Nice idea, kept on top of it until there were four. The music track grates a bit after a while, but like the tuning sound effects. Good job!

Nice, innovative concept. Sometimes there was not matching color in the screen and made me lose coins!

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
