Gifts Galore!

by Anachron - Jam Entry

It's Christmas time and presents are falling from the sky! Collect as many as possible for a high score, but don't let any hit the bottom of the screen or it's game over. OK, you get one continue, but that's it I mean it!

Gifts Galore is is a jam entry made for inclusion in my mobile game, Uncle Scotty's Arcade At The End Of The Universe. AATEOTU will be available for Android on Google Play soon, and will include at least three other games: Gravity Tubing, Forever Flappy, and Galactic Invaders. An early alpha version of AATEOTU is currently playable on GameJolt at:

Assets from AATEOTU used in this entry are game control systems like the pause, continue, and game over menus. I drew the 8-bit art myself using I also used several other Unity Asset store downloads:

Christmas Music Pack 2014 by John Leonard French
8 Bit Retro Rampage: Free Edition by Red Button Audio
InControl by Gallant Games
PoolManager by Path-o-logical Games LLC
HOTween by Daniele Giardini

The Press Start 2P Font by Codeman38 is used for text, and I am using the wonderful Screenshot Creator by DarkArts Studios for, you guessed it, screenshots!

This game was made over the course of about 4-5 hours. Development went relatively quickly because the basic game control systems were already in place from AATEOTU. Now that I have this base to work from, I'm looking forward to adding tons of new content to AATEOTU over the next few months and years. If time permits, I will add new holiday-themed mini games for this Ludum Dare Jam entry, and turn this it into Uncle Scotty's Holiday Arcade. Then I'll have an arcade inside an arcade and it will be like soooo meta omg!!!

Thanks for playing and please enjoy :)

P.S. -the back/escape button on the game over menu doesn't work at the moment because it's hooked up to the Main Menu for AATEOTU. I'll fix that if/when I have a chance to add another holiday game to this collection. In the meantime, sorry for the inconvenience.

This really put me in the Christmas mood, thanks for this! It actually gets a bit difficult around the 100 present mark, but that's a good thing. Before then, it's very calm. The graphics gel together well and are quite minimalist, but effective, and the audio works well together with the graphics. Everything fits, well done!

Really simple. I feel like it needed more mechanics added. But the music is great and I'm digging the background snowfall! Nice work.

Haha I got to around 100 and then they started falling SO FAST! I liked the music choice. The game, as others have stated, was pretty simple but it worked well.

One suggestion I would make is to have some "bad" gifts that you have to avoid picking up. That way you would have to think about which ones you're grabbing. Could make the game a lot more engaging with just a simple change like that!

Simple but fun. Difficulty ramps up super fast at one point!

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
