Ludum Dare 31 — December 5th-8th, 2014 — Theme: Entire Game on One Screen

Back to Browse Entries

by Elrobo - Compo Entry

Snowbotron is a simple robotron-like. WASD to move, Arrows to shoot.

Collect all the presents, destroy a bunch of snow mutants who want the presents, screen shake it hard enough to shake the globe and go to the next level.

If an enemy has a gift when it is destroyed there is a chance the gift will remain for the next level, meaning you won't need all of the freshly spawned ones.

Fresh powerups won't spawn while you are under the influence of one. If you are overwhelmed, chill and mosh with the crawlers until many powerups have spawned, they can't hurt you if you have no presents.

Note: you may get a warning when downloading the windows version in chrome, it is just the notification for it having an exe inside. I have checked it.

Very very cool animations. I love the overall visual style as much as I would hate being chased by a zombie-snowman :)
I was hoping for an ending after a while. Good job :)

Simple game with nice simple 3D graphics. Nothing much new to see here, and the enemies and mechanics are a bit too stale and basic. At least one more enemy type would have made the levels much more dynamic.

I loved the graphics, fun game too. Would be better if you could somehow lose.

The look is fantastic and very fun game. The shot could be controlled by the mouse.

Surprisingly addictive, yet I don't quite understand the goal? it was an enjoyable game and happily played it for 10 minutes but couldn't understand the goal, some times all of them blew up at once and I didn't know why. If you make the game more challenging and add in being able to die, or if there was one making it a bit easier to die you'll have a fantastic game! Loved the audio, you really captured the sound of the snow!

It's not a very innovative concept, but the high level of polish made it pleasant to play.

I like it, the animations were polished and worked well. Seems like you were bent on Snowman theme! I liked the idea of enemies picking up your presents! Arena could have been bigger and the action a bit more frantic to replicate that Robotron feel.

These enemies are really creepy! Can you actually lose in this game? I seem to be invulnerable. I made a similar game too!

Hi there. Looks really nice, played for a while. Nice graphics, nice movement, great treatment of powerups. Sounds good, only (very small) quibble is maybe vary the sound of Fire/Snowball slightly/randomise pitch a bit or something ?, just became a constant drone after a while. Good job!

I really liked it! Though you need to be able to lose and it would have been much better if i could use the mouse to attack!

Great animations and nice and simple 3D graphics! I really like how the snowmen pop up from the snow. Really good use of particles to make it feel like you're in a snow globe ( I assumed that's what it is. ) The controls worked really well and it was really fun to play, although I didn't see any indicator of how many presents I had collected, which would have helped with letting me know how well I was doing. Great job!

Cool idea, I played til my fingers hurt from shooting. I think with the kiting a mass of them, you could have really taken it to another level with a second kind of enemy that had a different pattern.

Sweet graphics!

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
