Never alone on this stupid screen

by sam101 - Compo Entry

"Never alone on this stupid screen" is a multi-player action survival game.

You are a shiny 8-bit guy who just wants to be alone on his CRT cave screen, but there's always stupid monsters, and
EVEN WORSE, other players, that comes to annoy you.

But maybe you'll get to the heaven of 8-bits guys if you kill enough guys. And don't worry, your guy will always remember
his stupid name and his level if he dies.

You can play using the arrow keys, and space/enter to fire. If you want to keep your level from another pc / browser,
you can use the second link ( ) to enter your username.

By killing enemies (or other players), you will gain some experience, that will allow you to throw those stupid monsters
(they really are stupid) out of your home quickly.

Sometimes, the fonts might now load, so you'll get really crappy fonts, you'll just need reload the page to fix it.

Please play using a modern, Chrome/Safari/WebKit browser is recommended, since Firefox tends to lag a bit sometimes :(.

Feel free to comment, even harshly (I do actually prefer criticizing comments :) ).

Check the github page for technical stuff about the game.

Solid shooter. Felt a bit clunky to me, with the limited axis moving and shooting, but still fun. :)

The graphics are a little cluster; But I'll rate a high score for anyone managed to make a multiplayer game in 48hrs

Fun game. Controls can feel a little clunky, but the idea of fighting monsters and other players works well and I like the generated names too.

Pretty cool to do a multiplayer game for LD! Nice music. The combat was pretty simple, it would be nice if there was a way to deal damage without taking damage too.

mtinkerhess -> You can shoot without being shot actually :)

I had no idea what was going on at any given time. Everything gets really lost in the grey of the background and tiles.

Nice job getting multiplayer in. Great retro sounds. A little chaotic but fun!

There was another player in the room, then I kicked his ass. Very enjoyable. Spot on for the theme. The controls are a little unresponsive, but that's hard to do with a networked game, let alone one written in 48 hours.

shubshub -> Thanks for the feedback anyway, I'll reduce the volume of the sounds !

rabbit -> Thanks for the feedback anyway !

madmaw -> Yeah, the prediction/networking code for the lasers is kind of buggy unfortunately (it was my first take on a fast-paced multiplayer game :/)

Really enjoyed this one! It got me hooked pretty fast though I'm pretty sure I died for unknown reasons!

I still made it through level 2 and killed what could have people or bots... it didn't matter as long as they would die B)

Hi there. Like the 8-bitness. Nice sounds. Lots going on, looks good. Might be a bit easy 'cos I lasted I while and I'm really bad at these games normally :) Good job!

The semi-turn-based-live mechanic is very confusing, the graphics are cool though

Real neat and lots of fun! I would've liked another attack, maybe slightly stronger (shoots 2 or 3) but only in one direction. Music's great! Well done!

I found the gameplay to be a bit too "busy", with so much stuff flying around on the screen in different directions. I'd suggest further differentiating the projectiles from the enemies.

Congrats on making a multiplayer game in 48 hours... I know that's no easy feat. Unfortunately, no one else was in the game with me when I was playing, so things got repetitive pretty fast.

Interesting game, although a bit hard :P

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
