Viper Twins (Alpha)

by Neonlare - Jam Entry

--SETTING--

Biff and Smith are two crude dudes, living in a run-down apartment located squarely in the centre of Neo Los Metro Angeles. By day they work as gym instructors, pumping out Xtreme exercise videos and trying to make a living from selling bad fitness products and even worse time-shares.

However when a secret vial of Powerton Chemicals were accidentally hidden amongst the Gym's power drink supplies Biff and Smith were transformed into the dynamic duo, the Viper Twins! Assuming their alter-egos Acid and Sting, the two fight evil and keep the streets of Neo Los Metro Angeles clean of criminals and villainy.

Of course with these new superheroes come the arrival of new super-villains, and one cunning and obsessive mastermind known only as "The Fanboy" has found a way to lock our heroes inside of their own television! Will they ever find a way out of their Mega-HD, 105 inch television, or will they be glued to their sets for the rest of time?

--GAMEPLAY--
*Note* - Right now for the Jam submission the game doesn't support Online netplay or it's Adventure mode equivalent, the game WILL get these modes and additional levels, content, etc but since this was made within the Jam constraints I wanted to post up what I got done and ready so far for LD31.

Control your characters and try to knock each other out by blasting towards them. Holding the jump button will allow you to charge up a blast, pressing a direction shortly after this will set you launching off towards that direction.

--CONTROLS--
*Note* The game has controller support, but I'm unfortunately unable to test the second controller, if the second controller doesn't work properly, Joy2Key will work in the meantime whilst I get around to fixing these issues. Sorry guys!

Global Confirm - Enter is always Confirm, regardless what menus you are in.

Player One - You can customize your controls on the Customize Control menu by pressing Confrm/Jump whilst Player One is selected on this menu. The controls below are default controls.

Arrow Keys - Move through the menus & move the player. Left and Right will scroll through the Level select for Battle Mode and which controls are to be edited in the Configure menu.

Right Control - Will Jump and Charge up your Blast, it will also confirm on menus.

Player Two - You can customize your controls on the Customize Control menu by pressing Confrm/Jump whilst Player Two is selected on this menu. The controls below are default controls.

WASD Keys - Move through the menus & move the player. Left and Right will scroll through the Level select for Battle Mode and which controls are to be edited in the Configure menu.

Space - Will Jump and Charge up your Blast, it will also confirm on menus.

--AN AFTER WORD--

There's a few things I wish I could have nailed down and finished up before the end of Jam. The theme threw me for a loop for a while but I think I managed to get a prototype down and dusted that actually feels a LOT of fun when you have two people together to play it. There's definitely more coming with this, cutscenes, additional levels, online multiplayer and more but for now this is what managed to achieve and get done/dusted for the Jam, I hope you guys enjoy it :D. If there's any bugs or issues you find throw them my way and I'll fix them up for post Jam releases.

Overall this LD was a blast like always, I really loved working on this and it's obviously something that will continue until it's completed and finished in it's entirety. Thanks for checking this out guys, I'll be seeing you around soon ;).

If only this game had more levels/modes that would be 10/5

This is some quality spriting. The game feels really good to play as well, and the SNES sampled music is great.

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
