Reward Circuit

by themushroomsound - Compo Entry

REWARD CIRCUIT is a find-the-exit type of exploration game, which gets harder and harder as the levels get bigger and bigger.

You are helped in your search by the TV screens scattered around the levels, which display a mini map. YES, this is how I squeezed the theme in there. You see, it's clever because that way each screen displays the entire game... yes? sort of? amirite?

The sounds emitted by the Exit should also be of some help. It emits a new layer of sound for each level. If you don't like the sound it makes when you reach a new level, just jump in the void and it'll be gone when you respawn.

This is my second LD and it was mostly an excuse to try 2 things:
- some type of procedural level generation
- creating semi-random soundscapes by streaming sounds from freesound.org at runtime

Look for the Easter...uh, Xmas Egg.

/!\ For some reason the web player version keeps crashing ! /!\
...this might have to do with the dozens of simultaneous HTTP requests and streaming sounds :p The builds seem to work fine, however.

Enjoy! :)

EDIT:
Apparently the freesound.org API only lets me pull 2000 requests a day... If you get no sound apart from the TVs buzzing, this is due to freesound.org throttling requests. :(

EDIT 2:
Soooo the awesome people running freesound.org agreed on letting the game pull 5000 requests a day! Hope it'll be enough, more people should be able to enjoy the game as it was meant. :D

It didn't crash with the web-player, but the cursor was off-centered very easily.

@Wayward: thanks! :)
@Mopz: may I ask what browser/OS you tried the game on? That might help me figure out what's going on... Also, the cursor issue could be avoided by going fullscreen (the right-click menu in unity's webplayer should be available)
@ilikescifi: and a Merry Christmas to you too!

Hi there. Liked the style, found the plummets annoying, difficult to steer. Got to level 4 before too much falling death. Like the sounds. Found an xmas tree. Good job!

I didn't understand everything but it was fun to explore to reach the end of the levels. And the atmosphere is quite unique.
Good work! :D

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
