SumoBall!by flyingbear - Compo Entry
An army of crabs has invaded your prefecture. It's up to you to stop them... SUMO PINBALL style!
Made in Game Maker. Used some concepts from Game Maker Pinball Engine by barrya3 for the Pinball physics. Photoshop, Audacity, sfxr were also used.
12/7 Update: Fixed a bug that caused you to frequently get stuck inside the flippers.
12/8 Update: I totally mismanaged my time this LD and only ended up with 10 minutes to actually playtest and make balance tweaks. I decided that I'd give myself 1 extra hour to flesh out and balance the game a bit. That extra hour of work makes the game substantially more balanced and fun, but it's technically post-compo so judge accordingly.
Here are the changes for the 49 hour edition:
-Reset back to level 1 after death (This is how it was intended to work)
-If there are no enemies on-screen, send the next row immediately
-Fixed a bug where store items weren't always updating their "affordability"
-Made the tougher enemies give out more money
-Time between rows decreases as you get to later levels
-Made the first appearance of some of the tougher enemies happen at a later level
-You can't shoot out of the cannon right as you get to the shop (It would cause you to mistakenly purchase the wrong thing)
-And NEW "ONE-HUNDRED HAND SLAP" ability to help you clear out multiple enemies and blow past their shields!
12/9 Update: Added music to the 49-hour Edition (also quick-fixed the off-the-top-of-the-screen bug)
-One of the things I love doing each Ludum Dare is to spend an hour or two composing a chiptune to go with my game. Well, I didn't get a chance to do that this LD cause I spent so much time on physics this and physics that. So when a tune popped in my head today I couldn't help but spend an hour-and-a-half busting out this chiptune, which you can now find in the 49-hour edition.
12/13 Update: Added a web version of the game! Check it out if you have a somewhat-powerful computer.

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.
NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.
MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.
MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
