DEBATE simply is an online debating arena. Shout your way to rule the arena!
The entire game takes place in one screen, literally, one arena for every single candidate.
You must always keep calm to survive:
- Debating (shouting) to other candidates pushes them away and relieves your anger level, unless you're being shouted at the same time.
- Shouting for no reason makes you angrier.
- Staying silent retrieves peace back, unless you're being shouted.
- Keep in mind that the angrier you get, the powerful you become.
- Finally, once again, try not to be shouted.
Controls:
- AD/Arrow keys : movement (horizontal only)
- Space : shout (interact)
---
The current version is - should support - up to 16 players. I will try to keep the server up and running as long as possible.
Nevertheless, please excuse me in advance for horrible connection problems which may likely occur.
---
Hope you enjoy it! :)
Cheers

Thanks for trying out @Mincemeat, such a shame, I suppose that's the main drawback of making multiplayer games. Hopefully, more people will give the game a try, making EVERYONE happier! :)
@Nuclear Napalm, sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, the server I run the game on tends to be unstable from time to time. It should be up right now, if you'd like to give it a second chance. Thanks! :)
Damn, why no one playing this? I wanted to try it but I was the only one in the room :(
I'll come back later to rate it! Can't do it now!^^
There were a few people on when I played, it has potential.
Art style is lovely :)
Same as everyone else, I can't play because I have no friends :/
I'll try again later. :)
Couldn't play since no one was there. But i understand the concept well enough. Cool idea, awesome graphics and good sound. However the intro lasts far too long. Tried all my buttons to check if the thing actually worked.
Great art style, fun concept, but gameplay was a bit unclear to me though - wasn't entirely sure when I was winning or losing :)
Unplayable? I only got a title screen and saw no way to start the game. (Web)
Thanks everyone! Sorry to ones got stuck in the title screen, the game attempts to connect to the server automatically while you're in, but the server apparently crashed once again which I just recovered.
Hopefully, you should be able to join back if you try it again now. And many apologies again for my crappy server. :)
It seems that volume and anger triumph over reason and balanced argument, which makes it quite a realistic simulation! An intriguing idea.
Really interesting idea! Love the simplicity and the mechanic metaphor.
very cool idea. would be great with 16 people on the server.
Hi there. Like the idea as described, the general noise sfx was good... nothing happened though, tricky to rate multiplayer when no-one else there.
Haha, I really liked this! It's a simple but really effective concept and I think it's awesome you did an online game in such a short time. 10/10 got to yell at people.
Cheers for all the feedback!
Sorry to hear all the loners out there who couldn't find any candidates to yell at. I try to play the game whenever I find the time to join you guys, but it's indeed tricky to find enough people in the arena to debate 'properly'! :)
I suppose it was a bit too risky decision on my side to make a solely multiplayer online game for the jam. Maybe I should organise specific time periods, so that more people can join at the same time. Anyhow, thanks again all for giving it a try! Muchly appreciated! :)
I had the chance to play it and I loved it. Nice entry and well done. It's rare to see a multiplayer game here... Great work!
excellent concept and idea! i dont know who I argued with but i am sorry I had to shout :DD ahah
the graphics style is perfect for this kind of game
Funny, looks nice. After i won 4-5 debates no one appears and i got text "You got debated..." (no, i didn't press the button to debate myself).
I rather liked this. Pressing space bar rapidly felt pretty analogous to "yelling".
I liked the idea a lot. The UI could have been a bit more approachable, but otherwise: good job!
Very fun game, I love how the squares are debating with tiny voice xD
Good job! :D
Haha, that was fun, somehow, but it sometimes looked a bit random if you won or not, but great idea, very innovative concept! :)
Why do people use Unity and then not make a Linux build? It takes like 20 seconds.
Thank you a lot guys! Glad to see more people enjoying the game! :)
@Demy thanks, it's likely that your connection might have been lost, it's a bit misleading as there is no additional message for that, sorry for that!
@xgeovanni fair point! put the 64-bit Linux build link above (couldn't test it though please let me know if it works out for you.).
hahahaha :-)
great, I was alone at first in the background but suddenly I got shouted xD
very cool idea, a little (really a little) more gameplay, throwing money/slamming a door/quit the job/cry/pull up a wall/jumping/... would be cool though, as I understand the one that presses space the quickest wins? :p or is there more? :p
anyway, I think when you make a multiplayer for LD you should always try to make some sort of bots aswell, since that allows people to really play the game even if there is noone arround
even if you're shit at AI, people wont judge for that, but people that are just alone will not be happy because they cannot see any gameplay at all
I was debated.
I really loved the little audio sounds. They felt both melodic and as if they were trying to communicate something. It's a shame I didn't have any opponents. I'll try back again later :)

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.
NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.
MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.
MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
I can't really rate it because no one was playing :(.
