In the abandoned tomb the GHOST of every play is recorded, so why not add your immortal soul to the party?
In this adventure the world of the DEAD meets the world of the LIVING.
If you survive, your statue will join the walk of triumph for all to see, and if you don't your message to eternity will live on to haunt all who follow...
All controls explained in the game (cursors and space bar)
=====
** UPDATE 4: The 72h version now uses moderation as well as post compo so it will update as time goes on. I also reduced the number of ghosts to relieve lag
** UPDATE 3: Post compo version loading times now much improved due to caching and moderation is ready so the TOMB IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS (collecting souls, that is ;)
** UPDATE 2: Post compo version is ready! I have FIXED THE COLLISION DETECTION huzzah! It's now much easier to jump the pits because the player hit box is smaller and there's much less momentum so it's easier to guide the character around. I've also reintroduced un-moderated statue earning, trolls - you gotta earn your right to troll by beating the Trappy Tomb now!
** UPDATE 1: Due to trolling issues, although you can save in-game text, it won't appear until it's been moderated. Please bear with me!

Great game. Writing messages to other people is really funny :) There is a lot of messages from me because I died many, many times XD
Great idea! Already some funny messages cant wait to see what its like in a couple weeks
A really nice little game. I like that connection thing and the graphics and the sound and I think everything about it. One of my favs so far.
Tough as hell, but great entry! The notes are a really clever idea.
I got past the third boulder...
I had a lot of fun reading and typing stupid stuff!
Excellent! Good idea, great graphics, and hard as hell. I liked it a lot. I mean, I haven't been able to leave it until complete. Got some Dark Souls in there, and that is awesome. Backend must have been hard... maybe? Share the knowledge! We need more games like this!
Now remember guys my wise words: the cake is a lie, javascript alerts do not work, I suicided to take you left, just run, and always praise the sun!
Super sweet :)
I admit I sometimes died on purpose just for the chance to leave a note to eternity :)
If you die and cancel rather than leaving a message, you don't respawn.
Otherwise, this is a super cool game with a great atmosphere. The game's concept is cool (even if Dark Souls did it first) and the traps are trappy.
The best game I've played this 'Dare – and I've got a statue :3
love this game. the messages is a great feature. "i like turtles" lol. great job!
The messaging is great, just the controls and collisions require more tuning
Good! Very clever. Really liked the idea... I hear ghosts whispering... Hahaha!
I like the shouts from the pits a lot :) Great game. Would make the collision box of the character smaller.
Thank you for the awesome comments! I'm humbled that people are enjoying this ridiculous game :) yep I agree the hit box is a bit big which makes the pit jumping a bit too hard. I'm thrilled some people have finished the game
@Maesk haha! Nice statue ;) the backed is FatFractal - very easy to use and no server side code needed at all, plus it is free, I recommend! Will give some more details when I get a chance
@Thingo- thanks for pointing that out, I think it's a different-browsers-do-things-differently problem. Could I ask which browser you are on?
Thanks all, I got some rating to catch up on now ;)
@sealfin thank you so very much :) 18 points?! Amazing job!
I really enjoyed this. The previous-plays ghost mechanic is always fun and the addition of a dying message is even better. Good choice on keeping the ghost transparency down. It's really cool how the ghosts turn into a river and you stop seeing the individuals until the end.
One of my favorites! Hilarious to see all of those notes, felt like an abbreviated Dark Souls experience :)
What a great entry! i loved the connected worlds messages and ghosts.
Reminded me of the darksouls which was awesome
Amazing idea, I love it.
The only frustrating thing is how long the load times are after dying, not sure if there is a way around that. But this is great!
I was _this_ close to closing your game because I thought it was just a static picture, after about a 30 seconds I noticed the red square on the left was a loading bar.
But seriously, _this_ close.
I agree with Canyon, I thought it was broken at first.
Otherwise, this is awesome! I think the collision with holes could need a little work (it's more sensitive on the right side than the left, potentially because the anchor is not perfectly placed).
Hopefully the source code will be available :)
I KunoNoOni, Champion of the Little People, have earned a statue in your wicked little game! Nice play on the theme, loved the visuals. Gratz on an awesome game!
Very interesting game! And extremely challenging! I enjoyed playing it and played it a lot :D
Wow, I just gave this a perfect score!
I literally could not stop laughing the whole way through. There were so many ridiculous messages, especially in the pits. I would love to see a post-mortem on how you approached making this!
Finished it twice. Will anyone beat my score?! <:
I tried to break it by pasting in 2MB of text, but no dice. 10/10 would play again!
I can see what other did and said. I've always loved such a game. 5 in everything!
Your comments are amazing, the game would be nothing without your death messages so thank you all!!
Sorry for the loading times, it's about 1MB per run I think. I'm so tempted to fix the hit box but don't have time for a post compo yet ;)
I will certainly share the relevant source code and do a postmortem, thanks for asking Nepoxx and MaesK :)
Thanks for the robustness test Steve, had thought of that trick thankfully ;)
And to the shameless own-game-pluggers in there- that's possibly the greatest compliment, cheers!
I will absolutely play as many of your games as I can cram in :D
This was very fun. I especially like the previous players persisting as ghosts. Very well done!
Nice game, great idea (I suppose you know Dark Souls ;) ), but I had serious noclip bug on some walls in the game (notable the wall next to the first two golden heads, it always let me through
great work on this entry. Some great iso pixel visuals!
Couldn't get very far though!
Thanks for the super comments!
I'm v disappointed to report the game is being badly trolled. I'm doing what I can which is essentially some basic filtering. You will probably see some offensive material. If it goes on I'll have to do something drastic which would give me the sad face :(
I've taken the difficult decision to take the game offline. If anyone has suggestions how to help please let me know. Otherwise I'm scratching my head for now.
IT'S BACK UP! With comments disabled - you (and our troll friend) can still add messages, but they won't be displayed until I get moderation implemented... Thanks for all the support I've received it is AMAZING =D
Hey guy with similar idea! :D I love your game. It was really fun to play. Some feedback for a post-compo version: the sliding of the character makes it a bit more difficult to navigate through traps. I also had heavy lags under Firefox, but with Chrome it worked fine. Good game!
Do you still need help fighting the trolls?
Hey Stephen thank you! Great feedback, Firefox is the one I've not tried...
Thanks re the trolling- all too easy a target! Have a cunning plan so will see how it goes ;) looking fwd to trying yours :D
lol that was awesome being able to leave a mark for eternity :P Cool use of the theme!!
I love the community interaction, the graphics and the simple gameplay. Don't let the trolls get you down!
My only criticism is that pit/lava deaths seem unfair because you die as soon as you get near them. But that's splitting hairs, this is really well done and really fun!
Fun idea (and actually fun to play). Lot's of LOLs at some of those messages ("Balls !"). Bug-wise, I seemed to hit a few collision issues, ending up inside the walls after jumping (latest Firefox, Win7).
I like that the game was kind of like a top down spelunky but it was waaaay to hard to keep me interested, also the options of what you can do (move + jump) just seemed kind of limiting. No bombs or whips or anything, and the same level over and over...
Cool idea and good looking graphics, however it was unplayable for me, The graphics kept freezing for several seconds whenever the level scrolls or something appears, however the game still updates when frozen so you end up moving blindly into the pits.
Firefox 31.0/Linux 64bit
@pansapiens, @someone - thanks for the bug reports! Have tested the game on chrome, IE and Safari and found no problems but it does seem that Firefox has some issues - sorry! Post compo should sort that out if I get time ;)
@BrainSlugs83 - thanks for the honest feedback! Yep, it doesn't compare to Spelunky but then apart from the setting it's not supposed to be in any way related. I did consider procedural generation but that would be too hard to set up all the traps and I wanted everyone in the same space so the replays would work. The idea was jumping is a flying kick hence how you attack the bats - my art skills let me down there ;)
I'm not sure it's fair that the original and the hit-box modified versions of the game share a statue database ;)
Also, I'd like it if the "message to eternity" box let you know how many characters you had remaining – my most recent statue's message is truncated ;_;
Awesome twist on the theme! And the tomb is just as hard as it needs to be! :D
@sealfin Thanks for the v useful feedback! You are truly raiding this tomb ;) (sorry, that was bad). The character limit is 40 chars. Sadly the box is too basic to have a countdown a la twitter. Re the database- noted! Bit of a dilemma though- until I get moderation set up there would be no ghosts in the new DB which could be a bit lonely... I'm working on it! Cheers again
@sealfin p.s. But rather he'd what?!!! The suspense is killing me ;)
Alright, that was also glorious as hell.
Really nice take on the whole Dark Souls messaging thing!
Only gripe gameplay-wise is that the movement felt a little bit slippery (too slow to accelerate and too little friction when moving).
Brilliant! That is more than a game, it's art and creativity at it's finest. It would be funny to make a website showing all the ghosts of the dead lined up and when you click on them you can see the comment, how long they survived and what the cause of death was...and maybe even with stats like "how many people died of lava" and "what's the average survival time" :D
Finally made it! Funny game, that suffers from its poor controls and collision detection.
I'm not sure about the Humor rating, as the most humor comes from user generated content and not the game itself... although it's the game itself that provides the framework for such hilarity to unfold...
@jimmypaulin Thanks for the info! I'll take a look at FatFractal. I see you had problems with offensive comments, that's sad to hear. But well, I tried some javascript just to troll... :D
Will you upload a screenshot of all statues? A Hall of Fame, perhaps? ^^
What a fantastic use of the theme! I love it! You actually managed to turn floaty controls into an acceptable gameplay feature! The game is really hard, but in a good way, and the comments are an awesome touch. Nice work! :)
Absolutely great game. Everything fits, fun as hell, and the messages to other players, genious addition!
@jimmypaulin: The moment has passed... whatever wisdom my statue might have imparted will e'er be a mystery... :3
Really awesome!
Works fine on IE11 too.
So, where's the source? :)
Minor niggle: Over time the amount of ghosts is really bogging the game down at the start phase.
Nice Game! Sound is nice as well as graphics. The controls feel also nice!
Really cool! I liked that you could see what parts were difficult and of course the reactions :D Very nicely done!
I will beat this. This is one of those games where the difficulty level is high but it's still fun.
I like this idea and take on the theme, but the collision with the pits!? Aghhh. I think even in the post-compo version it could be improved a bit, I still sometimes seemed to die by hitting a pit with my head =/
Lagged a bunch in Firefox, but played fine in Chrome. Nice work! Good variety of traps, and I like the way the bats track you in a periodic, Jumpman-esque way.
Really cool idea that worked well.
For some reason the sound that played when text appeared annoyed me. Sounded like I was taking damage or something.
I tried to play it, but since my monitor is 144 Hz, my browser runs on 144 Hz, and the game runs on 144 Hz instead of 60 Hz too. So everything goes 144/60 times faster. :(
It seems really cool thought.
That is nothing short of amazing! If you would have told me your plans before the compo started I would have called you crazy to even try. Awesome work!!! 5/5
Thanks for the incredible comments, you guys and gals make it what it is so it's all down to you!
Sorry it doesn't run on Firefox and sorry for the 144Hz issue - that's one for the PhaserJS devs I'm afraid!
Re the source- it's all there as un-minified Javascript so you can simply open your browser's dev console and view it I think- probably only on the 72h version though
There's a bit more technical info in the postmortem I just added
Thanks again :)
Very nice job and good idea
BTW It doesn't run on chromium OS X. I had to run it on Safari :(
It stops loading at the end and console displays many phaser warnings abotu not finding files
This is absolutely brilliant. My personal favorite. Glad i stumbled over your Post Mortem. Superb!
Spend probably 40 minutes or more on this one, and finally got the 22/22 score. You managed to make the old trap game concept fun. The ghost-mechanic is absolutely astonishing. I loved to compare my speed to other ghosts and even recognize my own ones taking the exact same routes i was taking. Great fun!
Nice game. I like the fact you coul write a message to other people after dying, it's really cool :3
All the messages got a bit overwhelming at first. I really liked the feel of the jump.
Terrific game. These two minutes stretched across half an hour until I gave up (the inertia combined with the hitbox was too much for me, though the post-compo probably fixes that). Almost made it through, so the difficulty is right on the spot.
nicely done, especially once I realised the messages were other players :)
Great game! I liked that it was challenging, and that you could write messages after you died! Good job!
Site hoster or my browser didn't let me play this game. I scroll page instead of jumping. Also loading ssoooooo looong %)
@egor-idiot Oops sounds like you stumbled across my secret "spectator mode" ;) could you try the post-compo gamejolt version instead?! Thx
Bloody hell, fantastic entry!
One of the best LD30 game I played. The mood is perfect, the music is perfect, the playability is perfect, the graphics are perfect, the idea is really really really cool and fun.
Full 5 stars for me for all criterions (first time I rate like it). Congrats.
Good game, though the guy is a bit slow! I included it in part 27 of my Ludum Dare 30 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) http://youtu.be/DOSk1bi234E
@sephyka thank you so much for that comment it made my day
@Jupi Love your vids, sadly Trappy Tomb wasn't running at 60fps for you, sorry about that ;) thrilled to be included anyway!
Okay, so, this type of punishing gameplay is totally not my thing and I suck at it. I still love your game though - because it's the game I would've loved to make for this Ludum Dare. It's just a perfect use of an online feature in a contest where people rate and play asynchronously, and very amusing too. Extremely well done! :D
It was pretty difficult (I couldn't get through it all the way) but this is among the best theme tie-ins that I've seen!

14th place overall? THANK YOU AMAZING LD FRIENDS!!!

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you want to place in the final results, you NEED votes. The easiest way to get votes is by rating other games. Judging lasts for 3 weeks following the end of Ludum Dare. For best effect, rate 20 games as soon as possible. Rating more games is encouraged.
MORE TIPS AND DETAILS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE
TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.
NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.
MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up.
MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
Fantastic, as simple as that.
