by Gerardw3 - 48 Hour Compo Entry

This is my first Ludum Dare, so don't expect something amazing from me, but I thought it would be something fun to try and accomplish.

I worked pretty hard on this game, but didn't spend an amazing amount of hours on it.

Dev Program:
Game Maker:Studio

Game Maker:Studio Sprite Editor [Kenny's Space Pack -]

The aim of the game is to clear the whole screen of asteroids.

You will find this hard. You are meant to find this hard. Death is the main feature in this game. And yes, to answer your question, it is possible - I have completed it twice.

The controls are simple:
Arrow keys to move,
Space to fire

The game-play is hard:
Don't die.

There is no sound, and the AI is a bit strange, but it was the best I was able to complete in the time limit. Sorry for only having a download, but I am still in unknown waters with HTLM5 and Web Development.

Leave no asteroid alive...

[Thank you for trying out my game, and I hope you like it!]

Nice game, but you should submit it to the Jam, as you`re meant to create your own graphics for the compo.

Hey ! i downloaded the game but each time i shoot an asteroid all the sprites becomes invisible... (it seems like the fx is doing weirded things...) It works great when you only shoot enemies though... I'm on windows 8...

it works fine here.
The design of the spaceships si very nice I dig it !
The gameplay itself is a bit crude but functionnal. I was about to give up thinking there was an infinite respawn of asteoid then I read your description better, and felt the urge to clean this asteroid sceen. I spend one whole hour trying without success... Were you able to do it, yourself ?

Some suggestions :

- Make the hero bounding box smaller. It's not about difficulty it's about fairness, it's very frustrating to die when asteroids come near without actually touching you. Most shooter even make bounding box smaller than the ship graphics so player have the feeling to be some sort of super bullet dodger :)
- The sfx for shooters are easy to make especially with sfxr and they would add a lot to the mood of your game.
- The ships need to explode. I know we are in space and stuff, but it's also a videogame and player like big explosion ( especialy with screenshakes )
- For your AI problem you should just try to turn your ennemy gfx 90° and they should look a lot smarter :D

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you want to place in the final results, you NEED votes. The easiest way to get votes is by rating other games. Judging lasts for 3 weeks following the end of Ludum Dare. For best effect, rate 20 games as soon as possible. Rating more games is encouraged.

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
