Portal of Intrusion

Hi!
This is the first time I'm participating in LD. I really would have loved to submit my entry to the competition but since I didn't have time to work on sunday I have to upload it to the jam.

I've written all the code within 2 days with the following tools:
Language: C++
Editor: gVim
Compilation: MinGW
Graphics: Gimp
Libraries: SDL2 (to get a window, OpenGL context and input events)


Since I didn't have the time to polish the game and to give explanations, I have to write a short introduction in the notes.

__Theme__:
The evil has build a connection between worlds to intrude our land and destroy the main castle. Stop them!

__Interface__:
On the right side of the screen there is the control panel. At the top you can see your money as a yellow number. At the bottom there is your score in red. Currently you can build 3 types of units by first clicking at the icon in the control panel and then placing them on the map.

__Controls__:
You can use WASD to move the camera around the map and Q to close the game at any time. The game is played mainly with the mouse since the main goal is to protect your castle by placing the following defensive units:

The thrower:
The thrower can throw all types of things at the enemies to deal damage.

The gatherer:
The gatherer automatically gathers ressources when placed next to them. Currently there are three different types of ressources: Rock, lumber, and tar.
If you click on a gatherer he gets selected and you can then select the thrower or spear-manufacturer by simply clicking them. He then forwards the stuff he collects to one of the selected units.

The spear-manufacturer:
The spear-manufacturer needs one wood and one stone to produce one spear. Like the gatherer it can then forward the spear to selected units.

__Goal__:
Your goal is to build up a ressource pipeline so that there are many things hitting the intruding monsters.

Hints:
- you can click the portal to speed up spawning
- different materials have different strength: Log < Boulder < Spear
- tar can slow down enemies
- enemies use the shortest path and placing units blocks their way

I am really thinking of putting more features into the game and doing a post-LD update.

I liked the graphics, the gameplay was a bit hard to get into (at first I kept spawning enemies until I figured out what to do :D)

The graphics was ok, but the gameplay was to slow in my opinion. I also happend upon a bug where I lost a unit when spawning him by double clicking.

Interesting take on a tower defense game. I'm not getting transparent graphics though. All of your sprites had a magenta background :\

Took a while to figure out as nothing is labelled. Pretty fun and of reasonable difficulty when it starts going. Could really use some clarification in a lot of places though. Graphics are very nice.

I had some fun with connecting ressource thing bu I had no idea what is the game end condition.

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
