This game works very fine on Chrome, it might bug on firefox (didn't find any bug with final version but I had some with previous games)
PS : a well known cheat code (the Konami one) can be used on the main menu to unlock all levels.

Thanks for your comment. Actually the graphics took me almost half of the compo time and there are a total of 5 songs in the whole game. I don't think I could do better. But the challenge is accepted for next Ludum Dare.
My brain hurts so much right now... A more progressive difficulty (with smaller levels maybe) might help to understand how the game is played
Anyway, good take on the theme, and nice concept. Never saw something like this before
Great mecanics and use of the theme! NIce audio and storyline. I have to admit i cheated (printscreen, mirror, reverse add transparency, etc.(not on the first level! i am not totally dumb)) Cause my brain was hurting too much.
Oh. My. God. This is excellent. I've played only one level. Too much for me, but I'm sure that I'll play it later. Great idea, it's very innovative. Audio isn't that bad. Graphics are... hmm... bad. But hey. Like they say - The graphics are not the most important, what matters is gameplay. :)
A fresh twist to the otherwise heavily-populated genre of top-down tile RPGs. The principle is excellent, though very challenging when considering the large number of obstacles and the few sand mounds. I must admit that after two dozen or so tries I gave up.
The graphics and sound appear rather basic and follow a style that I don't personally like (think 1990s GeoCities).
As for the humour and mood, it surely deserves to be considered one of the wackier games.
the audio and graphics weren't too good, but the game was cool, nice work!
That ostrich animation is so fast it's funny. I kept getting eaten by the worms when not stood over them - not sure what was happening. I tried at least 5 times to understand what was going on but alas gave up. Beyond my silly brain misunderstandings, my feedback is just one thing. Mixing keyboard controls with mouse UI/buttons doesn't make a good user experience. :)
Really interesting game!
Good music!
But way too hard.
Interesting mechanic, but way too hard game though. Checkpoints at each sandpit would be nice. Or should have had an easier first level, cause I feel like an idiot. =D
Nice music and awesome backstory! :D
really well done, love how you challenged the theme in a really innovative and fun way. i think after a while it gets a bit too repetitive with just remembering the ways though ^^
Haha, great take on the theme. I found it a little too disorienting for me to play, but I love the idea.
@gwinnell Don't forget you can't see the world in the same way when you head is upside down.
About the restart button, it seems that clicking it is the only way to use it on certain computers (seems to be browser related) I can use the space bar and arrows on my computer so I don't have to get my hands off the keyboard. But that's a good remark.
This is a really creative game! Great job! It's really hard for me :( Perhaps some easier levels at the start would ease this issue?
It's nice and not easy. I'm filling some challenge.
And yes: "Ostrich B Goode" :)
I absolutely love your interpretation of the theme, i like it when a game switches between point of views, well done!!
(But it is sooooo haaaaaaaaaaaaaaard :) )
Awesome concept. I found it really hard lol, but I really liked it. I loved that you took the time to make a decent "death" effect, and made some homemade sound effects for it. Good job!
Great idea and nice gameplay, your game deserves better graphics but it works well !!! The story is very fun, i am still laughing :)
I thought the score for this game was really good. The moon stage in particular made me think of Pink Floyd (which is not a comparison you make very often with freeware games made in forty-eight hours).
It's a really clever take on this sort of game, and I liked the little slug things. It wasn't all that fun, personally, but it was super funny. The little "doop dee doop" music that played during the story segments and the death animation made me laugh my ass off.
Ha! What a great use of the theme. The head under the sand is a great excuse for the infuriating (but fun) mechanic of turning the world upside down. I felt like getting a piece of paper out to figure it out but that felt like cheating.
I'm afraid I got to the end of the moon level and then the rocket didn't take off :(
Nice background music and hilarious rocket sound btw :)
Sorry for the rocket bug, it seem to happen sometimes on certain machines but definitely not always. At least I can't recreate it on my computer. It's really weird as the code is an exact copy-paste from the level 1 rocket.
You can use the Konami code at the start screen to select your level then you'll be able to see level 3 and 4.
Thanks a lot for your comment anyway.
Loved it! Did you make the music yourself? It's amazing! I only got as far as the moon level, but I was taken aback by how good the music was there.
Thanks iambored, yes I made the music myself with my guitar and audacity. It had to be done really quickly as I started recording the music 1 hour before the compo end. That explain the bad notes sometimes. Level 2 music is also my favorite.
Hahaha! Awesome! Never figured out the head-in-the-sand map, but it was still pretty fun. And I love me some guitar :)
You posted a comment on my game, saying than it is not cool that I had rated 270 games...
Don't be jeolus, I've been 4 days rating games all day and night, because we it was holidays in Spain. I have rated the least rated games always, giving useful feedback to the ones that doesnt even had a visit.
(I have just rated yours, +1 game rated)
Very original take on the theme! The gameplay is quite fun, though confusing at first.
Nice use of the theme, and a clever game idea. After the first level I cheated - took a screen shot and rotated it =p
This game was really nice! The use of the theme was nice, and making the map upside down was a really nice touch. :)
I just think it was too hard with just those landmarks... Perhaps, if you could mark 5 tiles (number picked at random), it would get easier, but not too easy.
Nice idea, but it was a bit too hard for me. It was a really cool take on the theme at least, with some nice music to boot. :)
Fcuking fun! I love sound when ostrich put his head under ground!
I really liked the game, I too had the issue of the rocket not taking off on the moon stage, also I was bummed that after I got to my sister we didn't have to travel back to the rocket. I think a really badass ending would have been once you get to her, all the spots where you can bury your head under ground go away and then you have to make it to the rocket. I think if you added that small thing, then the last level would have felt that much more epic. And also that way the last level would have been harder than the 3rd level which IMO was the hardest.
Still so much fun, very well done.
Thanks joe for this comment. I think I finally fixed the level 2 rocket bug. I couldn't test it from my own computer as I coulnd't reproduce the bug, but now I guess it's good.
Hey this was real smart!
Good and fresh new type of puzzle game!
Nice....

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you want to place in the final results, you NEED votes. The easiest way to get votes is by rating other games. Judging lasts for 3 weeks following the end of Ludum Dare. For best effect, rate 20 games as soon as possible. Rating more games is encouraged.
MORE TIPS AND DETAILS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE
TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.
NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.
MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up.
MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
Wow, well done! Very innovative! Also really fits into the theme. Would be even better after you invested some more time in graphics and audio. But you've made a great start.
