One Shot

by zzzev - 48 Hour Compo Entry

A simple web game inspired by flash chain reaction games and the pacifism mode of Geometry Wars 2. Please use Chrome to play on desktop; the game is untested in all other browsers, and known broken in some of them. You can also play on mobile (tested on iOS devices), where it works pretty well on recent devices (very well on iPhone 5S, playable but a little stuttery on iPad 2). Please let me know how it works on your device of choice.

The game is written in Coffeescript, using the Canvas element. I used fonts from Google Fonts, the Sound library from CreateJS, Compass for styling, Browserify for bundling, and Beefy as a development server. All the code is available and free for re-use (MIT license) on github.

Got to 62 points.

Protip: Try to roll all the balls in to one huge one. It's easy to dodge.

I like it a lot! (Actually my favorite so far, I'm a sucker for simple aesthetics)

I never really triggered the explosion though, most of the time I just collided with something by accident, which was a bit disappointing. Perhaps in a future build the player should just detonate when they hit something?

The feel of the controls and the aesthetics of the game are great though. Nice job!

I forgot to write this is my comment about, but I think it'd be a lot more fun if the difficulty scaled a bit quicker.

The minimal graphics are so nice and clean. I really like that style.

Pretty great game : ) I liked the style! I would have liked to see some different kinds of balls or something. As it is it's pretty OP to just move in a circle, haha.

Wow, great execution, the style is really clean and the audio goes really well. Game play was really nice, though probably needs more challenge, I kinda bombed out on purpose to see what happened, not sure what I could have got too. 415k+ score, btw.

The game just looks polished, something you don't see often during LD48

Very nice, simple, clean, and importantly fun. I had a giant ball slugging around in the middle of my screen. Pretty cool to watch it grow.

Nice game, I love that it's HTML5 and works on mobile. Would be nice if enemies with different patterns of behaviour emerged after you play for a while.

Completely missed the part about the one shot at the end the first time. Went back and got a score of 1364992. Re-rated accordingly.

VERY fun, I have to say I would play again! Also, I thought the graphics were great, simplistic, but perfect for what you had! Don't have much time, but will be playing more tomorrow, want to see how good I do.

This was a lot of fun on a touchscreen! I died before I got a chance to use my explosion, so I only got 262. The game mechanics feel solid and the rolling animations are nice.

Cool concept and very satisfying to play. The rolling animation on balls is a nice addition.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you want to place in the final results, you NEED votes. The easiest way to get votes is by rating other games. Judging lasts for 3 weeks following the end of Ludum Dare. For best effect, rate 20 games as soon as possible. Rating more games is encouraged.

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
