Hover your mouse over things :/, perhaps I should add a note to make that more clear!
Ah, no, it turns out the buttons were disabled.. wow.. glad you noted me of this before I go to bed ;).
Absolutely awesome. I love the graphic style together with the music and the sounds. Stuff like this is why the artstyle seems way past "retro-style" to me. Back then it was often still about trying to make it as realistic as possible, yet not having the options. Now, games like these profit immensely from the style because it leaves room for the imagination, which is probably my favorite part about games like this.
Ohhh! :o This was soo interesting! I saw the heartbeat thing on the blog ...now I know what it is. :-)
I like the opening story, but I felt like it was a bit too slow. I like the aesthetics overall.
Nice entry, I've fount a little difficult the rocket level, it's very hard to steer without hitting something :P
The opening was a bit slow, but the game itself is very sweet and well design. Sometimes, the menu won't work at all (launch and decouple).
Very good stuff. Awesome sounds and music, very athmospheric. The gameplay is also cool, the steering is unforgiveable but fare. job well done sir!
Absolutely loved it, but the opening title and the dialog both seem to play really slowly. Maybe it needs a way to be able to click through each dialog individually or something along those lines. :)
Other than that, excellent work! :D
Great game, I have never finished any level however, too hard :(
Agree with commenters above, the opening is a tad slow. But the atmosphere and mood is perfect! Love the gameplay and design choice.
Are any executable version for Windows? I can't play the web version for Unity plugin issues.
Great game. Good story and well played on only getting one life. I will leave it at "loosing", since it seems like the correct way of playing, only once. Art was good and fits in the game, just as the audio. Good luck!
Great mood, great graphics, rather good sound (music especially).
Intro is a little slow, should be skippable per-sentence (or click to speed up at least).
Rocket sequence is rather difficult!
Overall 4/5!
Really impressive work given the time constraint!
I really enjoyed the visual style, it felt unique (in a good way) and consistent. The modern-hardware scaled mixed-sized pixel art isn't something I've seen much of, but I think you pulled it off very well. Definitely a nice game to look at.
The sound and music was excellent, I really enjoyed the use of sine waves in both the pads on the music and other places, the audio also tired in incredibly well with what was happening on the screen.
The combination of dialogue and music really set the mood. I knew instantly from the opening dialogue that all wasn't well; the sense of tragedy which I was sure the protagonist was going to experience, combined with the implied child-like innocence of the character set me up for a feeling of unease.
The gameplay mechanics were simple, though in this case it felt like it added to the plot. Mechanics more complicated it seems couldn't have been spawned from a child's imagination, and so would have made little sense in the context of the game. The fact that there were several mini games is nothing short of amazing.
Though I found some of the minigames difficult you provided a skip button on them if the player failed too many times. This was (unfortunately) used, and very much appreciated. The skip button on the dialogue remained unclicked, but it felt like a good choice to provide such an option hidden discretely in the corner of the screen.
Overall: Nice work!
Really great combination between storyline and gameplay. Amazing graphics.
Very cool! I'm impressed that you worked in several minigames and had time to have a worthwhile story. Controls were responsive and any failure felt like it was my fault, not the game's. Impressive work.
I was unable to get the ship past the meteors after a half dozen tries, so I feel like I'm missing out on the story, but from what I was able to gleam, you did a nice job :) The title screen is really cool.
Thanks for all the kind comments! If there was one thing I could change it would be the pace of the dialog / possibility to skip to the next line :/.
Had a lot of difficulty on the first level, but I liked the mood and the art.
Very touching and beautiful. I completed the first two levels in a dream-like determination that I knew Sam would feel. But I failed the third level without realizing the crucial thing that might've kept him alive. A sad game. Stunning end sequence.
Does it have an alternative ending? I just didn't know what to do in the cardiac monitor level? Should I have kept clear of walls? Should I keep beating? Should I get the diamond shaped thing? What is the oxygen bar? And when I failed there, I couldn't try again. So very well designed game with just one color! I liked the story presentation, it was emotional. Gameplay was simple but effective, childish but it should be so! Nice game overall, except the ending gameplay part! :D
Hate to spoil it, but that's where the "Sometimes you can't win" comes in, you are supposed to not really know what you are doing :).
@Rahazan interesting! I can see the connection to the real life indeed and it just adds to the experience, nice :)
Very cool! I like the intro.
I have one suggestion, make the hitbox on the rocket smaller, it destroys even if you if just like slightly touch tangentially to those floating mass.
I tried few times before giving up. I really wanted to see the ending :(
@goyal You are right that the game is very unforgiving, don't feel bad for skipping a level! That's what I added the button for ;). I actually trimmed the hitbox down quite a bit (screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/A6gcubk.png), but I know it is probably still too hard.
Figured I'd add this to the comments to explain the name of the game a little:
Asphyxia or asphyxiation (from Greek α- "without" and σφύξις sphyxis, "heartbeat") is a condition of severely deficient supply of oxygen to the body that arises from abnormal breathing.
Great intro and setting the mood. also really liking the music, but a bit hard
A fantastic game. Wonderful intro, wonderful mini games, wonderful story and mood. I could not ask for more.
-Story was great.
-The sound and background music were perfect.
-Graphics were very good, but sometimes I would see especially bright stars in the background and think I needed to avoid them 'cause they're the same color as other obstacles.
Overall, this is a completely legitimate, complete game by itself, as-is. You can't say that about many LD entries.
Woah, intense. Great atmosphere throughout. Was really fun too. The heart monitor at the end was really nicely done.
Sad game :( I cried a little inside at the end.
The mood is set incredibly well.
I actually finished both mini games after a few tries :)
I couldn't survive at the end, but actually hoping I didn't (in terms of the story). Well done.
Great, but sad, story with a nice mix of gameplay. Should have an option to speed the text up rather than just skip entirely. Great work!
Neat game, took me a while to figure out how to launch the ship though. Nice graphical style.
A skip intro would be cool - the game once in is pretty neat. Liked the black and white art also. :)
Neat game. It was a little slow to get started, but not too bad once I was able to control the rocket ship.
Incredibly moving. I originally felt that the text was moving too slow but eventually decided that it fit the mood perfectly.
i really liked the graphics and the use of story to take you through this multi-game experience. great job!
Damn this long unskippable dialog intros are a bane of ludumdare... I cam to play, and sitting waiting for what seems to be a minute when there are thousands of other games waiting -_-
Other then that, job very well done, loved your use of sounds + atmosphere you created in the game!
It appears that you have included 3rd party commercial source code in your git repo.
You should really remove the "External" assets from your tree.
Ouch, that wasn't supposed to be in the cloud, removing the folder from the git repo! Thanks for letting me know
A weirdly emotional atmosphere in this one! Loved it. As others have noted, timing is a little off in the intro. Gameplay itself is smooth but maybe a little repetitive and without a goal in sight it doesn't motivate to keep playing. Amazing visuals and music, and great polish overall.
Wow, great atmosphere, but I'm so sad right now... I didn't save Sam! Well done, great game!
This was quite a sad game... I included it in my Ludum Dare Compilation video series, if you'd like to take a look http://youtu.be/mLdQN8xdVMY
Took some time to launch the spaceship. Controls a bit hard.
Nice b&w art, it sets up the atmosphere quite nicely. Good job!
Nice game ! Graphics are great, the music and sounds are awesome, good for the mood. Quite challenging, great work !
I like the "level select" idea, but agree with others that the opening was too long and seemed unnecessary.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you want to place in the final results, you NEED votes. The easiest way to get votes is by rating other games. Judging lasts for 3 weeks following the end of Ludum Dare. For best effect, rate 20 games as soon as possible. Rating more games is encouraged.
MORE TIPS AND DETAILS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE
TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.
NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.
MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up.
MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
Nothing happens after story plays, waiting for a few minutes and then gave up :(
