O.N.E. Says

by NightShadow0 - 48 Hour Compo Entry

Update: Added a post-jam version with a few more presents and 3 minutes of play time. Aside from that the versions are identical, but please rate according to the 48h version. Thanks for playing, happy holidays!

It's Christmas eve and Santa's busy with all the kids' letters. Since he can only read English, he acquired a robot translator named O.N.E. (Objective Noun Exchanger) to translate the foreign letters. However, O.N.E.'s translations are rough at best and Santa has to decode their meaning. Because no matter how bad the translations are, Santa doesn't get the letters; he only gets O.N.E.!

Music made in SunVox; it was meant to be just a christmas song but i was having so much fun that it got a bit wild, for better or for worse.

Ha, Funny idea for a game. I dig the game overall, but there are so few different gifts, that it becomes very easy to rapidly pick the right presents after you have figured out each's description. perhaps items could have multiple descriptions to throw the player off a bit?

Yeah i did intend to make more presents to break the repetition but ran out of time. Multiple descriptions never crossed my mind, that would've been quicker to make. Thanks for playing!

Maybe you could show a selection of items per question. Really liked the game!

ha! a really nice idea for a game. i wasn't sure why there were 3 people on the side though...does it make any difference which one you click on or can you just click on one guy every time?

@capnramses Each kid asks for a different present, but since there aren't that many you may have gotten the same.
Thank you all!

Funny idea, really liked the music and pencil sketch art. Biggest complaint would be that after awhile it became easy to pick out the gifts. More presents please! I dug it, good job!

TIL the actual name of google translator is O.N.E. :P
I really like the handdrawn graphics. My final score was -1, but it was really fun anyway :D

It would be cool if you could procedurally generate content using google searches or something.

I like the idea behind this, making the theme your own interpretation of it. Great work!

Fun idea, not sure how it relates to the theme really. But it's an interesting and enjoyable mechanic in short bursts and would be good for educational minigames. Great music and graphics for 48 hours!

There at not that many presents, so the gameplay is quite limited. Nevertheless, graphics and audio are awesome, nice job!

Thanks for playing and rating, everyone!

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you want to place in the final results, you NEED votes. The easiest way to get votes is by rating other games. Judging lasts for 3 weeks following the end of Ludum Dare. For best effect, rate 20 games as soon as possible. Rating more games is encouraged.

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
