***** ABOUT: *****

Originally, I was thinking of doing a tactical sim, where each unit had "10 seconds" of movement time each turn.

As you moved the unit, or did various actions, it would subtract from the "seconds"... but I spent way too much time screwing around with just the basic engine and graphics... I ended up stealing the base of the stick figure code from an old SpeedHack entry I'd done (technically that source is on the web and anyone can download it...) ;-) -- but that was a huge time waster...

In the end, somehow, I ended up with a platformer where you can run and jump and climb ladders... I kind of started heading towards: Well maybe if enemies spawned every "10 seconds", and it was a shooter?

But 4 am hit, and I have work today, so there's no chance of finishing anything more than just what's here before the deadline.

I'm hoping to keep working on this outside of Ludum Dare, it was a cool start...

***** GAMEPLAY GUIDE: *****

If you press F1 it will toggle the help screen shown in the Screenshot (it's on by default, so press F1 to make it go away).

FYI. That second "screen shot" is just a zoomed-out view of the full map -- it doesn't appear in game anywhere (it was rendered by the game with a hack, but the hack has been removed, so you can't trigger it). It's there as reference screen shot, so you know what to expect.

***** DOWNLOAD GUIDE: *****
The download links are up at the top of the page, as for which one to choose, the "Windows Setup" package is the way to go!!

The "Windows Setup" package installs ALL of the prerequisites. (It contains the XNA redistributable, that's why it's > 6 MB; it will also download and install* .NET 4.0 if you don't already have it.)

(*: there's not much in the way of progress reporting here though, if it needs to install .NET it may just sit at 50% for about 5 minutes -- I have no control over that -- just let it run -- if you already have .NET, the rest of the install takes less than a minute).

If you're ABSOLUTELY SURE that you already have .NET 4.0 and XNA 4.0, you can download the "Zipped Bins" zip file isntead.

As for the source code, it's a Visual Studio 2012 C# solution using XNA 4.0 (which doesn't work by default, you have to go hand edit some XML files before it will open/build [see:]), and the installer is done with WiX.

Great work!

animations awesome, no sounds, no music, and no objective :(. I think this game can be awesome if you create more content! Good job anyway

The character animations were really good just there needs to be more content to actually play. The lack of music, objectives, etc. reduces the playtime.

Absolutely. I just didn't use my time effectively -- by the time I had the player able to climb the ladders and worked out most of the weird bugs (you can still dance on top of ladders if you hold down the up button XD) it was 4 am on monday -- and I had to work in the morning.

Right now it's basically a limited engine. But, I plan to turn it into a game *eventually*.

This game has the making of a nice run-and-jump platformer. I hope you find some good use with this engine. :)
Animations are good, but the running animation needs to be quicker.

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
