Potentiam Limitatam

by biag - 48 Hour Compo Entry

POTENTIAM LIMITATAM - Latin for "Limited Power"

A strategy game. You give your villagers orders during the night; they will carry them out during the day. Your villagers can only perform one task per day each, and they'll each eat 2 food every day, so food management is important! Your goal is to get your population to 100.

Controls: mouse-only. Click on a resource tile (trees, rocks, and bushes) to designate it for harvesting. Right-click a grass tile to bring up the build menu. Click on a farm or granary to toggle its production on and off.

If you have fun with it, please comment and tell me why! If you don't, please comment and tell me why! This is my first LD ever, as well as my first "completed" graphical project ever, so I'd love to get some constructive feedback.

Note: it may or may not be possible to get to 100 people depending on the generated terrain. Sorry!

Wow, this is pretty hard! Maybe it's also because the text is so tiny and you don't have much time, but I kept dying of starvation because it's difficult to check on inflow and outflow of resources. But with some work on the interface, this could be a really nice game.

I agree with Frozen, this is pretty cool. I ran into issues where I'd have a tile highlighted for action, but it was never harvested and so I'd end up with 1 of me 2 starting population never harvesting anything. Would like to see this fleshed out some more.

Interesting game. Would be nice if food was auto-collecting (tired of trailing down every pile again :)

Just checked this page- didn't expect anyone to see it, so I definitely wasn't expecting comments! Thanks for the feedback!

This game is amazing!!!
One of my favorites.
Playing 30 minutes reached 61 population. No more stones to build houses. Some notes:

* Resources on map border sometimes cannot be harvested
* Its not clear on instructions but looks like a worker is used on harvest day at farms and granaries.
* Would be great to allow place order in daylight (to be executed next day, of course)
* Its hard to get help on what building does in 5 seconds menu
* Visual indication of disabled buildings

Really nice and really hard (maybe because I played it using touchpad).. :-) And the guitar song is just great. Good job.

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
