Post-compo edit:
Thanks everybody for playing and commenting :) We are overwhelmed with all the success GWBW had on Ludum Dare, on the press and all over the world. We received tons of mails, tweets, messages... Thank you all for your support.
As we said on early comments, and on several interviews, we are already working on a remake. It will be not just a polishment of this minigame but a series of puzzles based on this mechanics and story. As soon as we have defined the sequel we'll spam the internet with our project :)
We've been creating a lot of concept art, about the original characters and new ones coming :)

I loved the game, the graphics are really awesome! Great job!!!
This game is hard, but fair and very, very fun. Great job!
Holy crap, this game is amazing. The game is really intense and makes you feel for the characters.
Wow! we just posted it and had all this feedback! Thanks a lot for playing!
Great storytelling! Watching the crew falling apart is intense! I love the graphics too.
I'm such a bad leader. Managed to survive only 6 days. Great animations!
Challenging, but awesome. This game is so polished. One of my favorites, definitely.
Great game ! It's really smart, very beautiful & i love the concept.
Amazing!! Survived 37 days, I'll come back to it later. Excellent game!
I do love your game. Graphics are amazing and sound goes well with it. The loading is a bit to long on my computer and I want to restars as long as I don't manage to repair that radio!
This was better than I thought it might be. The story was compelling and I started to feel for the characters, hoping I wouldn't make the wrong decision for them. Nice job guys! Graphics and sound were very great. It started a little slow, but picked up pace after the first few days.
Really great. Possibly add some more feedback, its hard to tell if people are going mad sometimes. Otherwise, perfect.
Huge replay value. The art is super nice, and the gameplay and twists are really really great !
Shut up and take my money!
You have to work on a full game based on those characters and universe! Start now!
Love the art, animation, and atmosphere. Excellent replay value.
Wow, great atmosphere, great mechanics, great everything! Couldn't beat it though. :C
Great graphics, sound, and atmosphere, but the game was really slow for my taste. Played about 5 times. Commenter saying these characters' universe should be explored is right. =)
What a marvelous game. Difficulty is incredibly high, even after several attempts I couldn't reach past day 37 (and I had already fixed the radio!). The music atmosphere and the sounds work quite well. I'm amazed, you did a great job.
I came here from Hacker News--loved the game! I wish the text at the beginning scrolled a little faster and I wish the game were shorter--20 days seems more feasible, but the mood is excellent. I like having to figure out the things that can go wrong, but it takes so long to play a game that I don't really have the time to figure out how to win.
Ok, now that I finally beat it, I can appreciate it a lot more, although I still think the pace is rather on the slow side — even the clicking actions and dialogs and whatnot got rather irksome after a while; that said, a very pretty game with some clever ideas. Good job!
Awesome! Really like the mood you created. It is rather difficult but fun! Will come back later to finish this!
Awesome game, clever concept. My only gripe is that this game desperately needed a proofreader - the dramatic dialogue loses a great deal of impact when it's rife with typos and bad grammar.
Outstanding game. The graphics somehow felt original but sent me on a total nostalgia trip. The gameplay is kindof like that too, reminds me of Oregon Trail combined with Space Quest and Walden.
Really cool game. Intense and draws you right in. All stars.
This is a really innovative way to make a story driven game. Also the retro-graphic is very pleasant. I love it.
Loved really loved it! great art, and the sounds were also to my liking
I love these types of games. I still haven't managed to win, though. Awesome graphics and nice audio, it creates a good mood. Well done!
Awesome game!!! I've survived with engineer all 40 days because of little bug (When amount of rations is equals to 0, teammates will not die), and I was always talking to engineer.
I really enjoyed this game, I think you shold try to make a full game with this characters, they're really cool. Graphics is perfect, all in this game "feels" real.
Superb. I quickly identified with the crew. Would love to see their further adventures.
waw, friggin best game so far.
Art is great, music is great, ambiance is great, the concept is brilliant, I really admire this work :3
From the Journal of Sergeant Burden:
"40 days until the convoy comes. I had to make some hard decisions.
I set Martin to hunting. He seemed to enjoy it, and I believed we had to use our rifle rounds strictly to fight this cold planet's predator. It turned out I was right about that.
After fifteen days the Engineeer had finished repairing the radio. I dreaded the moment he told me that the radio was fully operational. BR4ND-ON gave a soft, almost mournfool nod with his metallic head to indicate the Engineer's death sentence. For his effort, I shot him.
The soldier understood. So did the doctor. His wife did not. I tried talking to her. She would not meet my eyes. The next morning she was gone. To my shame, I can only admit to feeling relieved. I would not have her stirring up the camp with any disobedience.
The next days were a blur. A constant battle between the cold, hunger and the Medusa virus. Day by day we survived. We ate. We made jokes. And none of us talked about the Engineer or the Psychiatrist.
When the Orbital Convoy I looked at the Doctor and the Soldier. They knew I did what had to be done. They would say as much about what we did to survive as Marvin did. I made them swear as if the Gods would be watching them for the rest of their lives."

Loved this game. Loved it to bits. Took me a long while to figure out I had no way to keep everyone alive to the very end. Is it actually possible if you're really lucky, or is it necessary to kill at least on person?
Also, is there any practical use for killing BR4ND-ON? Except for, you know, being frustrated and going on a killing spree? :)
Its possible to complete without killing anyone. Also, as the soldier says, BR4ND-ON gives lots of ammo instead of meat.
Amazing game, found it a bit hard (I lost 3 members since day 10) but overall a great entry. ¡Gracias!
Nice game! good audio and better graphics, It keeps you on the mood.
Unfortunatelly I dont think it fits the theme.
Anyways one of the best entry I have played today :D
Crow. I've played this game at least ten times by now, and while I finally got to the last day with the radio fully repaired, I still died of hypothermia at the same time a message from Sgt. Burden came up about how "WE'RE GETTING OFF THIS PLANET!" So if there was some sort of ending animation, I didn't get to see it. Bummer. I'll be trying again!
A very good game, as you can tell from the number of times I've played it. My biggest complaints:
-Keeping the fire lit, while an understandable goal, can feel a bit like micromanagement. One time, I died because I didn't notice it was out on a day I did group therapy. Now, how on earth could an entire day doing group therapy cause you to forget to keep the fire lit?
-The typos! They're everywhere! EVERYWHERE! A lot of the spelling mistakes broke the immersion for me at times, but it could just be me.
Best game by far! I got off the planet, but lost the doctor. Curses. I spent most of my morning playing this game. You guys did an awesome job.
THANK YOU ALL!!! We are overwhelmed with all of this awesome feedback! The team is very happy seeing you all enjoyed our little game so much :D
Sorry for some little bugs that could break the fun, and... SORRY FOR OUR CRAPPY ENGLISH. We did our best, but we wrote all the game content 2 hours before the deadline! we've been in sort of a coma after the 72 hours effort we did to get this game out in just 3 days and didn't have the time to review the typos (some of them are just because our language barriers ^^u)
Won! https://www.dropbox.com/s/b3hlid40sih46zw/IWon.png
My strategy was to let the engineer and doctor die so I didn't have to tend to all the different sanity levels. The soldier for food, the psychiatrist for sanity, and the robot for easy radio repair without having to deal with the engineer's squeamishness.
Intense! Hunting with soldier seems to always be a bad idea, since Marvin can almost constantly bring enough food to table and if bullets run out when predators attack, you automatically die.
Awesome work and a lot of attention to details which made this game highly enjoyable. However 40 days is quiet long. Maybe add some way to make transitions faster. Also you can click on stuff during the transitions.
I was expecting an adventure game, but it was more of a survival one? Not sure. In any case, enjoyed it a lot!
Very cool! Absolutely love the music, it definitely sets the theme. Very immersed, but then again I've only made it four days.
Outstanding. Much like the need to keep everyone alive in the game, this is a game I feel compelled to keep playing. :)
Wow, the graphics and sound are perfect. I think there may be some good depth to the game, but after 4 tries I was frustrated with dying unexpectedly from this or that. Really top notch, though, glad this is a jam so I don't have to compete with it. :)
Simply amazing! The art. The story. The gameplay. All extremely compelling. Great job all around.
the game doesn't load even after several minutes D:
(my crappy computer strikes again... -.-')
Very Cool. Liked the graphics. I played until I beat it. I probably died forgetting to add more wood to the fire more than anything else. I got down to just the engineer and the dog and then the game was easy after the radio was repaired. I wish the transitions for the choices was faster, sometimes I would click and it would not register. I think it would be nice for the food, ammo, med, and radio if you could just see their status by mousing over rather than having to click the option.

The game's design is very intriguing, and its visuals are awesome - especially for a minimalistic game :) Very moody and capable of creating some real tension without leaving (as far as I've played) the same single screen. Kudos for that.
The set of available actions felt too constrained at times, though, leaving me the sensation that my decision were merely mechanic in nature, and not organic, and that some of the actions are there as filler: make sure the fireplace is lit (something you learn the hard way on your first night), repair the radio, repair the radio, talk to the one member of the crew that looks like is falling apart, repair the radio...
It left a lasting impression, for sure, and I'll come back to it again to fully grasp the possibilities of the mechanics.
Congratulations! :)
Amazing, I'm at a loss of words. With just a scene an a couple of actions available per character you really get to immerse in the role of the sergeant, and feel the tension as days go by.
Congratulations!
I survived for 28 days on my first try...the stupid soldier left ¬¬.
Awesome work and a lot of attention to details which made this game highly enjoyable. However 40 days is quiet long. Maybe add some way to make transitions faster. Also you can click on stuff during the transitions.
Very cool concept for the minimalism theme... I always liked adventures and more story driven games. This is definitively one of the best entries i've seen so far. The mood is just great (I wish my folks would stop run away and go crazy XD)
Brilliant! Gets back all the memories of the good adventure games, and only with one screen. Kudos
It's a really hard game but it's also very fun. The graphics are great and the animations are nice for when the survivors start to get stressed. Would have liked a few more hints and tips but overall it's quite fun!
Awesome Game! I felt like the group therapy was rather expensive for not accomplishing much. Also, as others mentioned, nothing bad happens if you run out of food.
really great game, I can't manage to finish it, but i'll try again. There's real gameplay + a good and well told story. Congrats!
That was great. Cool situation and graphics, simple mechanics but tough to master. I think I spent an hour playing this.
I finally found a rhythm that worked, the engineer and psychiatrist didn't make it. Couldn't be sure if its a bug or not, but can you starve? I went a day or three there with 0 food rations (grinding my teeth hoping I made it). I think I enjoyed that more than Bioshock Infinite, haha. Awesome little game!! ONLY downside is now I've beaten it I want more.
Continue the adventures of this space crew dudes please
What a great game. Got here from a link from Kotaku. One of the hardest LD games I've ever played, and I keep playing and playing it.
GReat really. lovely hard old style playing and incredible work considering the time you had. NICE!!
Excellent take on the theme. A kind of Battlestar Galactica (the boardgame) in a very minimalistic way. One of my fav game in this LD so far :)
Stunning visuals and mood. The madness does seem a bit abrupt sometimes, but it's an astounding achievement for 3 days!
Fantastic, That game was quite interesting and fun. I dont know about the future setting, this would hit home should it of been a air craft crash in the mountains or Siberia. Anyways great job.
Everything's been said in the comments but I want to add one. I looove your game (and it's someone who usually don't like point'n'click who says that).
Amazing game all around. The challenge is really good, and the interaction with the characters is excellent. This is definitely one of my favorites.
Awesome game, guys! Graphics are great and nice use of the theme using simple and precise gameplay. Unfortunately I can't vote because I couldn't finish on time.
Btw, I died on the 28th day xD
Awesome. I've not been able to beat it after a bunch of tries and strategies. I get about 20 days no matter who's left and just run out of steam. But, great idea, setting, art, music and gameplay. It's basically a graphical spreadsheet but that's a perfect game for LD :) I think you could extend this and have a hit iOS game.
p.s. this game will likely place top 5 in most categories, if not win most, if not win the whole thing :)
Amazing game guys! That was truly an awesome experience. I didn't manage to survive the whole time but it was really fun to try and keep everyone alive. Great job!
Fantastic game! I was addicted to try to survive the entire 40 days. I don't think the pacing was that slow, and it was very well suited for the type of game this was. The characters have great distinct personalities, and the stress of keeping everyone alive really carried through the game. Loved it a lot, great work. :)
What a great entry! Absolutely love the graphics. Took me almost two days trying to make it and not everybody did survive :) Very cool game. Well done! More of this, please.
This is very good! Took me several attempts but I'm so proud I was finally able to keep my team alive! Superb entry!
wow, probably my favourite so far
this game is amazing
I'm looking forward to more games from you guys
Oh maaan!! This is that game I dream of making all the time! I just don't know how to plan it! So happy I can play it, though. Thanks for making it. I died on the first day, on my first play! I lasted till the 30th day on my next. The psychiatrist, doctor and engineer all went crazy! Totally felt helpless. The only thing I'm a little iffy on is the sound. Unfortunately it kept cutting out at different points with each game I played. That would take me out of it completely. Especially when the awesome music just cuts out without warning. Or did I miss something? Anyway, I've got a radio to fix! Great Job, guys!
Wow, very impressed with this entry. I did get a little bored with the clicking around halfway in, shortly before everything went to hell (related? who knows...). But yeah, awesome job!
This game is epic, great story. This will make push myself a lot more, thanks for this.
Graphically reminds me of old Sierra games, but interaction has the flash feel to it.
Was a pretty nice game. Kept dying from fire and people seemed to go loopy all the time but it was really good. Nice work!
It's a sci-fi Oregon Trail! Loved it! That fire is a real pain, though.
Great game!
I've tried beating it at least 5 times now, but without success . I will definitely try again later :D
Graphics are cool same goes for the story.
Great game, it really stimulates replaying again and again! This had a really nice feel to it. :)
Outstanding! Spooky management game with adventure game interface. The characters interested me, and I felt their despair. If you continue to develop this, I was a bit lazy and wished that free actions, like counting stock, would be displayed immediately when mousing over the ammo or food.
Glad this is getting exposure outside of the Ludum Dare crowd. One of the best entries this time, rich in quality content.
This is my favorite Jam entry so far! I have yet to 'win' the game, but I'm gonna try some more tomorrow. Absolutely amazing work!
Oh! It was difficult but I made it! I thought it was impossible to win, dog and robot rest in peace, though :(
Beautiful game, I loved it!
the game has a major bug in it: you don't need to feed your crew NEVER. lack of food doesn't effect the game at all.
It's not a bug, and yes, it does affect :) But they don't starve directly. I won't reveal how it does, however, for the sake of future puzzles :D
Thanks everybody for playing and commenting! We are really thrilled about all of this awesome feedback. We began to work on expanding Gods Will Be Watching's universe already! :)
Follow us on twitter at @Deconstructeam for supporting us, pleeease :P We'll spam there our plans as we got them well defined.
THANK YOU ALL!!! :')
Wow. I never felt so bad about killing a pixellated engineer. Awesome atmosphere!
Great graphics. Original idea. Will definitely play again. Nicely done!
Nice game. I like the mood. More feedback about characters would be nicer ;)
Very impressive! I survived but it took me about two hours of retrying. Survived with three guys but the Doctor and the Psycho left me about day 35 after an inspirational speech after the radio was repaired.
Great stuff, think I'll play this even long after the compo is over... :)
The graphics and audio create a very convincing mood that makes the gameplay very engaging and immersive.
Hard but has a very interesting replay value. The graphics are sublime and the global atmosphere is pretty awesome (too bad the music stops at some point).
Great game overall!
I did escape the planet! The engineer got mad and left after 37 days, but everyone else stayed alive.
Finally managed to survive all 40 days without killing anyone by ignoring food all together. I went crazy repairing the radio from the very beginning, and as soon as it was completed all I did was manage morale. If the fire didn't need to be relit, I would do group therapy. The only real challenge at that point was making sure I always had meds in case the doc got sick first.
Regardless, great game. Love the overall tone of it, and it a pleasure to play.
Overall great game. How do you make people not being mad? My psycologisyt allways got mad first and I coudn't use terapies.
Impressive work you did here on the content, given the time you had. The game is hard but that's good. And it's HTML5, yay!
You guys must've borrowed the random number generator from FTL. It took me 5-10 tries to beat the game; I'm pretty sure some games were unwinnable when you get a terrible streak on your therapy/hunting/predators/medusa rolls. When I finally did get through it, everyone survived. =) Moderation in all things. We spent the last night huddled around the campfire, ammo and meds to spare, telling stories and enjoying a plentiful meal.
This was fabulous, end-to-end. Things I loved:
- Moons shifting as time progressed. So subtle.
- Links between characters: the engineer and the psychiatrist, the soldier and the dog
- Using the act of talking to characters both for exposition AND meaningful gameplay
- Scaling action points with the number of active characters
- Multiple paths for everything important, each with a tradeoff: repairing the radio, restoring sanity, hunting food
- Authentic animations linked to character state
There were a few UI quirks that felt awkward. Sometimes I'd try to click a character but the click would dismiss the message box instead. The text could use some proofreading, too, but I gather English might not be your first language.
Really unique idea. It's like a futuristic cross between the Oregon Trail and Gilligan's Island. If only they had the Professor to repair the radio. I made it 14 days and had the radio at 43/50. I'll probably come back to this one later to see what happens when the radio is fully repaired. My only issue was that it seemed to be a little to easy to kill your own camp members. I killed the robot guy early on by accident.
Something about this just 'clicked' with me (pun totally intended). The gameplay manages to stay fun despite its extreme simplicity, and I guess that's the point of the theme - so well done :D
Beautiful and extremely compelling game. All my group members keep getting mad and running away though, maybe I need to invest more in those therapy sessions!
Great work all round and one of my top games this LD.
Excellent game! Really enjoyed it -- overall top-notch, solid aesthetics and fun gameplay.
amazing art+music! kinda reminds me of The Dig with a single scene. well done :)
Sensational game! 5 in most stuff. I did it for 34 days and didn't survive. The only thing that I didn't like is because you take a mistake of not lighting the campfire, you die. It's so harsh for a little mistake.
I don't like point n click but I like this one. Good idea, good game (..but it is not minimalist ?)
What can I add that hasn't already been said? Your artist is channelling early LucasArts with this one, and that alone makes this a winner.
excellent take on the theme, graphics are nice and balanced, gameplay is tight, and it's a swell puzzle game. good work!
Everyone runs away, all at once :/ I can't seem to keep them around! That said, this game is REALLY good, and tons of fun. Had a blast playing it, good work!
A very nice game that have been added to my favourite list!
Keep up the good work
Utterly brilliant. Best entry I've seen so far, enjoyed every second of it.
The game is very interesting and deep. The storytelling was excellent. I liked graphics, they are very detailed, everybody look differently depending on their mood. However, the fire has lower resolution........
I don`t like slow-paced game like this. And I found out it`s not really complicated from inside.
Erm... morale goes down with time? With real time?? I went eating, and when I returned everybody`s morale had went down.
Great game, you guys did really well! That said, I think there might be a bit too much luck involved and perhaps theres still something missing. I managed to get to day 40 with 28/50 radio as my best. Good graphics, audio and gameplay... just good all-round! Would love to see this expanded upon.
Played again and got day 40 and contacted the guys with everyone alive and well except for the soldier (he was delicious). Ending still said my Sgt commited suicide though?
Great game! I lost all three tries, I show it to my fiancee? She beats it first try by discovering the 0 rations glitch, lol.
Her first action was to shoot Marvin. <3
Got here after watching a video of somebody playing this, it's just a wonderful game, but it gets really easy once you know how everything influences everything else. I want new levels so I have something new to explore.
I gotta admit that I love point-and-click so it's up to you if you believe me that this is a master piece. :)
I don't know about what would some background music do to the mood.
Sweet , still cant make it to the end though , everyone runs away then i commit suicide
Amazing artwork and gameplay mechanic! So much packed into a single scene. Congratulations!
Wonderful game, very well-thought and polished, with great graphics and music. I like the fact that nothing is black and white in this game - every decision has its good and bad consequences.
Dear journal : After forty days in this glacial hell, The Kestrel cruiser found us. everyone is alive, but the physical and mental state of my crew is worrisome. I hope our Journey of return aboard the Kestrel will be quiet. Burden out.
I went from loving this game to starting to dislike it...
The soldier, the doctor, the psychiatrist and the engineer became mad even though their psychoanalisis was 5, 4, 4, 5, which is higher than it has been most of the time. Ten days in, my food count was 18, I had 20 bullets (why do they increase when you kill somebody?), I had fixed over a half of the radio and I was ready for some group therapy the next day, then they all run away. This was like my fifth time around.
While on one hand, yes, it is perfectly possible in the real world for your entire team will go mad even if they seem to be fine, and in the real world you can't control what will happen next, losing out of nowhere feels pretty disheartening. Randomness is generally bad in games :P
The art I love, the music... I didn't rate the music. It is great, when I get to hear it. I assume it is my browser, but it cuts off, it lags and it suddenly stops playing. I use Maxthon on Win7 64bit.
Finally, using the keyboard you can kill someone over and over again. Which is kind of silly and can be abused :P
This is my favorite! So awesome, I can't stop playing it. The music supports the mood as well as characters. Want to listen music again and again, could you upload it to soundcloud or so?
Thanks everybody for playing and commenting :) We are overwhelmed with all the success GWBW had on Ludum Dare, on the press and all over the world. We received tons of mails, tweets, messages... Thank you all for your support.

THANK YOU!!
Seriously, this was an awesome game. I haven't completed it yet, but tried a few times- And will try a few more times. Excellent game!!
Awesome game! I played it for about 2 hours to finish it and I enjoyed every bit.
This is a great deal of fun! In the most nail-biting sense of the word. I'm definitely going to come back to this and see if I can beat it. Great set-up for a game, and the graphics are lovely; they remind me of the point-and-click adventures I grew up with in the 90s ("Guilty" and the like). That's high praise. The only thing I didn't like about the graphics is Sgt. Burden's very thin legs. Very good audio. The game itself is excellently tense.
A couple of typoes and grammar mistakes in the writing. Other than that, I enjoyed this immensely.
SPOILERS
I felt like a bastard when I had to slaughter the dog to provide food.
Wow, this is a really fantastic entry! I love your interpretation of the theme and the graphic style. Great replayability too.
