Bee Trip

by jim3wg - 48 Hour Compo Entry

First off sorry for my bad english.

Bee Trip is more an experiment than a real game.

Once upon a time a little bee whas flying around flowers to collect things to make honey. But for one reason she make a mistake and eatead some strange mushroom (you know this kind of mushroom).
After that she was completely stoned and turn around, and around, and around (listen to white rabbit from jefferson airplane) is favorites places ^^

Only 10 hours of work (lot of things to do in real life, kids, family, lawn mower ect..)

My objectives was to code as less as possible to be Minimalistic in code ^^ (maybe lazy)

more about this here : http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2013/04/28/bee-trip-minimalistic-code/

Actualy it dosen't feel like a reel game.

I will probably continue this projet to make something more interesting.

The game Relic rush (ios) inspired me for the one button / stop / walk
Even if there are plenty of game from this kind in flash. Relic rush has a great fun factor.

Goal flight as long a you can, avoid moles by pressing space bar...
Every time you make a complete turn the game is a little bit more fast...
And it come interesting for me around 8 completed turn.

You can play the web version (unity player)

Or donwload the apk from google play (maybe right now it isn't allready distributed on google play let's say 2 hours)

There is no music or sound in the game !!!

What i'm happy
-My second unity "game" (for the previous one i taked 2 weeks but it's more more complex ^^ look on google play Toys parking 3D)
-I like GI in unity and the powerful beast who make beautiful texture baking in the speed ... of light :)
-My switch to unity (i used to love flash before ^^)
-I can maybe make something fun with this one but have to work a lot.

What i didn't like

-Not fun for the moment
-Moles are ugly
-Bee too
-No real goal or Objective
-Terrain can be better with real "water", more details, grass ...
-Not this time again for the prefect "infinite math based game..."" shit
-Story in my head for this proto wasn clearly showed in the game with some comics or intro ....(lack of time)
-A lot of bad glitches on models.

Hope you will like it maybe only the graphical part :)

Last but not least .. I will publish the sources immediately after i removed payed stuff (cartoon fx 2 (bee explosion)).... from my unity project ...

Cartoon Fx is a great particle package for unity and i like it ... !!

Good luck everyone

May ludum dare continue for long time !!

So nice with little time !

Tested on
Samsung S3
Samsung S2
Nexus 7
Meizu mx quad core ^^
Winko King

Work well except on S3 (why ?) on wiko king it lag ....
And no real time shadow on Nexus 7 (strange) ...

But i have a lot to do about texture every single object has is own texture, i need to make some atlas .. Actually i have 70 draw calls :(

Baking all this small texture in one will make it probably more fast on wiko king ( a 200 $ single core device)

Thanks for comments.

I must say, that's best 3d graphics I've seen in this compo so far. Simple and nice-looking.

Really cute and pretty graphics. The game gets repetitive, but I know you had a limited time.
But it could be fun to have an enhanced version with better gameplay and music (I would play it on android :) )

Trop mignon et franchement bien réalisé avec si peu de lignes. Ajoute des niveaux et c'est la prochaine bombe Android ;)

Nice graphics! Technically it's perfect. But as you said "No real goal or Objective", coming soon I hope ;)

Really cute and great looking low poly models for a 10 hour game. Even as is I can see it appealing to little kids - stop, go, avoid the moles !

Love the little particles when you hit a mole. Nice work for 10 hours!

Well done with the graphics but it's lacking a bit in compelling gameplay. I think it would have helped if the bee got faster the longer you went without stopping or if there was some other form of control rather than just a stop-on-a-dime mechanic and what more or less amounted to guess work as to when the moles would pop.

All that is lacking is music. Works very well. My daughter had to be dragged off it so I could rate more games.

Cool game! If you would add some more enemies and sounds it would be awesome. Oh, and the moles are very cute ;)

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
