for Ludum Dare #26 "Minimalism"

Language / Framework: Java / Slick2D
IDE: Eclipse
Sound: SFXR

All source files included (in the folder "LD26").

To run: Run CW.jar. It should work as a standalone file.

To begin, just press TAB to toggle 1 or 2 players. 1 player is versus a (bad) AI opponent. 2 players the recommended choice, but it is only suitable when one is on the Mouse/KB and the other is on a game controller. Press SPACE to play with Mouse/KB or START to play with a controller.

Shoot the enemy! Get their health down to 0. A novel concept, I'm sure you'll agree. The game is minimalistic since everything is made from code-generated circles, with the exception of the in-game text.

WASD on the KB to move, or Left Stick on the controller. Shoot by clicking in the direction you want to shoot. You can hold the Left Mouse Button down if you wish. The controller uses the Right Stick to shoot. You can 'pick' a colour from directly under you - just right click or press Button 1 ('A' on the 360 controller). Each colour gives you a bonus, proportional to its brightness:

Red: Speed
Blue: Shot power
Green: Health regeneration

You can mix and match colours by moving over circles that overlap. For example, Purple will make you both fast AND powerful!

I hope you enjoy playing it.

An interesting little game. Very simple and I love the way the colors in the background influence how you shoot and move.

Could be improved by having more enemies on screen.

I like the idea, using the circles as ways to modify your attack is a neat idea. Faster movement might have been good.

Overlapping powerups to combine them is a nice touch.

Good game. Bet the 2 Player thing is great, sadly I have no controller.

A very good game, but once you know how it works it becomes quite easy to win.

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
