August 24th-27th 2012 :: Theme: Evolution
I......................'m...............done............................................
OK, here you go with Postman Chicky in 'Dorobou Neko'!! I'm not gonna lie, it's the anti-theme with the kittens^^. There's not much evolution, except for a lot of kittens which look like a big smilie with a cat around it :D
Help Chicky collect the packages which the cats stole and tossed around! Don't get hit by the cats though, they are feisty and can knock you out!
It's a little puzzle game where you DRAG&DROP arrows on the field to move Chicky along his path. Use the plane symbol to jump over obstacles
Have fun everyone!
Edit: oh noes! it contains a bug which makes the game a lot easier o.O. you'll see when you get to bridges. bear with it, as I won't fix it in the compo version, as it doesn't make the game unplayable...

I really enjoyed the level design and the music, although it would of been a bit less frustrating if the plans didn't clear each time you failed. But overall it was very good.
Overall, this was pretty entertaining. I solved most of the puzzles, and there was a good level of challenge. However, there were a few minor annoyances, such as the mouse smoothing making the cursor feel sluggish, and the pieces resetting after you played the level.
Does not fit the theme, but it's an awesome game. No further remarks.
I liked the little intro sequence and characters! I wish the game played a little faster (once I had a level figured out, it took awhile to watch the chicken progress through the level)
Those evil Thieving cats. Shouldn't clear my last level configuration if i lose.
The artwork is really nice, the mouse is weird and laggy, I'm a bit unsure as to where the theme is
I can't see any evolution. Also, this game is exactly like the Toy Car minigame from Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Cp2y9euuzw) Not that every game is original but this is the same but with different graphics and a sluggish mouse.
@Zamando: that is correct, this is a tribute to Prof. Layton, because I also wanted to try making an isometric game. And yeah, that the mouse is sluggish comes from using flixel without built-in zOrdering which is why there are too many calculations per frame. Oh, and don't forget, I added kittens!
well yeah i suppose tributes are cool, but you should have at least tried to get some evolution in there ;)
Pretty fun! It's impressive how you go the flat gameplay and the isometric playthrough both working, that was a really cool approach.
My only complain is that the mouse feels like it's stuck in molasses, which made the whole game a bit more annoying to play. Why use a custom mouse cursor at all?
@Matt actually, it's the Flixel built-in mouse cursor (calling it via FlxG.mouse.show()) :/
Doesn't really fit the theme (unless your in the 'evolving gameplay' camp).. But pretty good, Level 8 was a killer!
Reminded me of my childhood (Blupi, etc.) - impressed with the graphic work.. but wish the music was better :)
I rate this game so high because more than one time I have coded an isometric game and it is hard, you did it quite good, hats off.
I like the idea of create the map of the 3d simulated action.
I found a bug in level 5, if you hit start without using any of the elements available the cat is hitting you in the first button tile but the action that remains as valid is the bridge switch. (u so benevolent :_) )
Music is a good partner of the game, sounds simple but working.
and ...hey, I love these puzzles, you may want to release and deploy to the stores this game, if you dont, i'll do ;)
@juaxix now that's one of the best comments i ever got in like 7 participations in LD :D. thanks a lot! I'm actually planning to give this a shot in the stores (October challenge is coming!!) with additional features and of course, less bugs ^^. and yes, isometry is really hard, in the 48h of LD i was debugging like hell, and there are still bugs. i also tried some isolibs before, but they weren't convincing, so i was even more amazed when someone else made an isogame with flashpunk in the last LD, sorting the sprites on his own! that's when i thought: i can do that too, but with flixel (!) :D
so be prepared for what will and/or might come ;) look out for chicky and the cats!
I spent 15mn pulling my hair on level 5, has anyone actually beat it?
Ehem sorry. About the review... Let's say that after the well-animated intro, when I started playing, I already felt like the game was already nice enough, but then I clicked on "Start", and the reaction was: "Oh my, he even had the time to add an isometric view on top of the rest?" So congrats, the game is really entertaining, the graphics are cool and the music weird but nice, my only complaint is for the slow speed of the character during the isometric view, a "speed x2" button or something would be nice.
But I REALLY need some info about level 5 - at least a confirmation that it can be finished in the current game version ^^ I even tried to exploit some bugs (like the cat not hurting you on this level, the bridges being walkable when up) but even that didn't help...
hehehe, I feel honored that you feel like keep going :D. Here's your confirmation: YES, every single level has one or more solutions! For level 5 there are actually two solutions where you can completely ignore the cat. As a help, I will add solutions to each level. Also, level 8 is a real brain teaser, where I even forgot the solution myself ;)
Oh my, I eventually figured this out. I should have read the rules more carefully, I didn't know we could rotate the character by clicking on him :-x
Thanks for your answer!
Congrats on finishing a whole game! You have an intro screen, the mechanics, and everything! The chicky even falls offs the edge if you don't lead it carefully! The game's fun, though I would have liked a way to skip the early easy levels. And the iso view is awesome! It looks really good! If I had to change anything, I would perhaps not make it pause when it doesn't have focus (perhaps I know the duck will be safe the first few steps and I want to quickly check reddit?). Perhaps add some more animations at the end (perhaps a victory dance, a "sinking" animation, a "eaten by cat" animation?) - I know those are work and I totally understand them not being there now. I'm just saying this so that my comment gives you some advice, and not just a mindless rave :)
I think this a really good "Chu-Chu Rocket"-style game. Good work. Sadly, as mentioned above, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the theme.
Not seeing any evolution whatsoever, but since I don't see any rules that disqualify games that don't follow themes, so I'll still rate it. The kittens are annoying; had I not beaten level ten on the first try I'd have given up. Also, the bridges don't work. That aside, the game mechanics were pretty fun and interesting.
Well, maybe there's not much evolution here, but the game is really playable and feels very much complete (aside from not working stuff, which you're already aware of). Graphics are especially nice - the intro, the isometric view, are just perfect. It feels really well done and polished, and there are kittens inside, yeah! :D Very good entry!
I thought this was a well done game, I enjoyed the art style and the game is fun.

Nice game, but the evolution aspect is not given. But overall a game that makes fun.
