August 24th-27th 2012 :: Theme: Evolution
play as a velociraptor and defend your fellow dinosaurs against hordes of evolution ray toting aliens as you try to stay alive and keep things jurassic in this 2D survival action game!
do your best to disappoint the alien leader who believes he will be inheriting a fully evolved, modern world. show him that this is dinosaur territory and it's going to stay that way.
GAME INFO
the main controls are explained in the game. if you have a gamepad, you should use it; it feels more natural. you can press enter / start to skip the intro scene. note that when you power up you can do a double jump (it also makes you run faster, do double damage, regenerate attacks faster, and survive one hit).
PROJECT INFO
completed in 72 hours with our three man team:
Max Crane (mes) - code, design, art (lua / love, photoshop)
Ben Foden (benfoden) - art, design (wacom tablet, photoshop)
Scott Ashford - code (lua / love)
sadly we didn't have time for audio. i made a fair amount of progress on a song for it, so i will probably release a postjam version to remedy this.
the code ended up very hacky, so i don't recommend looking at it. but if you insist, download the .love file, rename it to .zip, and the source will be within.
we would love to hear your comments and any feedback. hope you enjoy.
BEN SAYS
This project was a blast to work on, and I highly recommend doing the jam to anybody who has some friends they can convince to do it with them.
P.S. Check out video of the art creation process here: http://twitch.tv/benfoden
ENHANCED VERSION
coming soon: the enhanced version will have music and sfx, many gameplay tweaks, an easier difficulty setting, improved graphics, and some bug fixes.

Very nice game! So much polish on the graphics, wow!!!!
Extra thx for the gfx video - I'll have to study it.
There was no sound for me, I'll just assume there is none :/
I like the whole one screen game play, but death came a little too easy in this game. I would get a good streak on then get zapped by a lucky laser I didn't see.
This game is a lot of fun (but really hard)! Nice intro, too. It's a shame that there is no sound yet. Great job!
This is awesome but maybe a bit too hard. Some gameplay tweaks and sound would make this amazing.
I dug it. Old school arcade feel. I could see it being expanded with powerups and such and it'd still feel fun to play.
I could not really play it because half of the game window was below my screen (resolution 1366x768) and I couldn't resize the window :(
Loved the cute little dinos and the detail in the scenery. Quite fun once the game started. Cutscene felt a little long to me, but I really liked having to defend dinos from the yellow dudes.
Very cute and fun game. I actually really enjoyed the scale of the large playfield. Graphics reminded me in a good way of joust. Just wish there was some sound and music. Great game still.
i liked the game, and so did my kids -- its unfortunate you used some inappropriate language -- was not really necessary.
Lots of fun, but i kept getting hurt by the evolved creatures for quite a while before realizing I could be. I love the usage of the theme. Very original, and very successful at doing it in a way that isn't really effecting gameplay but is still extremely prevalent (many entries attempted and failed at this in the compo)
Very well done. I really enjoyed it. Would have liked some more attacks to use. and sound will make it better.
Unfortunately the game doesn't seem to run on my computer. It just shows a message saying "has occured that caused raptor to stop. notify Max Crane + Ben Foden + Scott Ashford abut this."
Hey ! That's an excellent game. I first thought the main character was a dinorun rip (pixeljam) then I realized there's not a lot of way to draw raptor in 24x24 anyway :) All the dinos animations are gorgeous that's a crazy ammount of work for 72h. I think I would have liked some fx on impact when I attack aliens, because the dying animation is nice but slow, so it's not really easy to see clearly which alien is still alive.
Nice little game, would fit right at home in an arcade cabinet. Looking forward to a version with sfx.
pretty solid and fun! Also cool story. Maybe a little confusing, which makes it quite hard to beat.
Cool little game. Reminded me a lot of that excellent Dino Run flash game, in case you played that. The main character looks pretty much exactly like the main character in Dino Run, so at least your artist has probably played it.
Could be a lot more fun with sound.
Super polished :D The introduction to the controls, and the cutscene were really great! I kinda wanted to get to the action a bit sooner though.
Sound would be a definite improvement - I only started noticing when actually attacking guys and not realising I'd missed because there was no audio feedback.
Nice gfx, bgm and sfx will add a lot to the gameplay. Very hard.
Very nicely done. It's difficult to cover the level, but I guess the point of it is that eventually the aliens are gonna mutate some dinos.
very addicting game, with awesome art, one of the bests i've played so far :D
I'm playing this on Linux, and the game crashes immediately because the raptor stops.
New favourite! I loved this, the intro, the simple mechanic that's not only thematically different to any game I've played, but I don't think I've ever played a game where you only have a charge attack, v. addictive. can't quite make it 5 mins yet though, I seem to be able to deal with the enemies but not with swimming.
I loved it! A little hard, but I enjoyed it a lot! Great graphics and controls felt very accurate. Thanks!
The screen was bigger than my laptop so I couldn't see the top or bottom.
Haha, indeed this is much more refined than mine, good job. The controls are very good. Pretty difficult game though, some audio feedback could have helped.
This game was really fun. The graphics and level design worked very nicely with one another. I think it might have been better if the enemies stood out a little more from the fore/background, but that was part of the challenge. Also, I think that the game got a little too hard too fast, but maybe I'm just not good enough :)
I had a ton of fun. One of the best ones I've played. If you guys completed this, it would be great.
The pixel art was beautiful, and it was one of the most fun games I've played, probably due to the simple mechanic. Kudos

Pretty cool game, I think that the level is maybe a little large, it makes it a bit tricky to get from one side to the other before the enemies get your dino friends. The graphics are cute and the gameplay is pretty refreshing. I also very much like the plot which ties well with the theme.
