August 24th-27th 2012 :: Theme: Evolution
IMPORTANT, READ THIS (it's for your own sake):
This.Game.is.HUUUUUUUUUGE!
Like...369MB...ZIPPED! (No setup though, just unzip and run the Playsomething.exe. Run winsetup.exe to play windowed)
So it mighttake around 20minutes for you to download it. (And one more to unzip it) Try the two mirrors, pick the best.
"-What ?! 20 minutes ?! What am I going to do during 20 minutes ?"
Errr...I don't know, maybe you can try some other games. I heard there are plenty of them around here.
"-But why is it so huge ?!"
Because it's a stop-motion animated game that contains things you won't find in any other games, like :
- 15 different endings
- Stunning photographic animations
- Pieces from more than 20 boardgames (will you find them all ?)
- 2011 photographs (the last one was too offending)
- Hellboy on a poney
- Torrid sex and crossword sex
- Insane violence and sane violence
- As much strategy as tactics (and you might find an interstellar battle)
- Orcs, zombies and panties
- Silly dialogs
- A subjective typology of boardgames gameplay and their subtle impact on sociologic relationships, personal development and flat-wasting.
- Oh yeah and pixels too.
You'll have to make a boardgame session evolve through the dialogs.
We had A LOT of fun making this, we hope you'll have some too!
(Oh yeah...and no sound. Maybe in a future version)

I was able to download it, but not play it. I tried to run it under wine on linux :(
It looks really cool!
I didn't run on Win7 64 bit. It stuttered a lot, the cursor hanged everywhere and it got stuck at a coin and text about representation or something.
Tried to increase the memory to 100MB, but didn't help. If there's logging going on, I'd post it, but I couldn't find anything.
A shame.
Ouch sorry...AGS sometimes do that on some computers...I've never been able to understand that problem...
It was nice to play it.
But i don't understand what it has to do with evolution theme...
Nevertheless game is really good.
This was well worth the download time, it was fun and I really enjoyed it!
Very interesting. The evolution in the game is very subtle and minor. This doesn't seem to be so much a game but an experience, but a good one none-the-less.
From a technical side, I noticed in the credits that the you used GarageBand in making this so I'll assume there was supposed to be sound. Not sure what the problem was, but the game was completely silent for me.
Wow game is awesome! The game is about nerd love troubles I guess :D Love humor, graphics and stop-motion stuff!
Wow. But I don't understand how it correlate with evolution theme =)
What an awesome way to celebrate board games!!! So awesome!
Pretty entertaining, sometimes steamy, and funny. Not much to do with evolution, but good stop-motion nonetheless! Also, bonus points for making use of Zombies!!! figurines.
I didn't really get how it involved evolution, but it was highly innovative anyway!
A side note - I also did not hear any sound.
I only played through once, beat the guy at War and it ended. Loved the animation, will definitely play again! It has to do with the evolution of games, no? Very cool!
Impressive. This is not just a game, this is the best flirt manual for gamer I have ever seen ! Congratulations for achieving all of those awesome animations in just 48h !
This was pretty cool, totally worth the download. Played through a couple times, had no idea where the dialogs would send me!
Wow, it's really cool! The animations and dialogs are awesome. I was affraid that the lack of sounds could be a problem, but... I think it isn't after all :)
Great job!
Thanks for all your comments, here are some answers to your questions :
"Why is it so huge srly ?" :
Because a stop-motion game implies lots of pictures, in this game there are two thousands of them. Each pic is around 200ko, do the math...
maybe we should had use smaller pictures, we thought 640x480 would be small enough :/
"I see Bandcamp in the credits but I hear no sound, why ?" :
Jay, the third member of team 111 was supposed to make the audio but because some internet troubles and lack of time, we weren't able to implement the audio. The Credit screen was done before that. We will probablmy make a post-compo version with audio though.
"What about the evolution theme ?"
We thought it was pretty clear, but obviously we failed. At first we wanted to make a stop-motion animated Grow-like with boardgames. It would have been a very evolutive gameplay. But progressively, we changed our mind and made this.
We thought the evolution would be felt in the evolution of the character's relationships and the evolution of the games themselves (a coin turning into a pawn, a board turning in another board etc...). Obviously it wasn't enough ^^
I saw the evolution pretty clearly, and I thought you're going on a crusade to tell everyone that video games are good, keep going !
Nicely done (I'ld like a version with sounds !)
Brilliant! I loved every moment of it.
What's the boardgame in the submarine called?
It's "Red November/Novembre Rouge" and it's an excellent cooperative game!
This was pretty fantastic, actually. It made me see board games in a different light. You should definitely put it somewhere where it'd get noticed, instead of on the Ludum Dare, where you didn't even follow the theme :P
Really interesting. Both because it's good to see other people using AGS, and because I also love board games :D
Lots of really funny things; could have benefited a lot from a few tweaks to make it easier to play. Mainly the addition of skippable cutscenes - it was a bit annoying having to see the intro every time I replayed (AGS provides StartCutscene() and EndCutscene()).
Regarding the size, did you try using the 'compress sprite file' option in the editor?
No I didn't and I didn't even used cutscenes...in fact : every picture of every animation is...a sprite! Yeah, that's right, sprites! I chose the hard way! (mainly because I'm not smart enough to think of an easy way) There's no video at all in the games, only sprite animation. That's probably why it is so heavy.
I'll try the compress sprite file technique though.
I still have a lot to learn on AGS! Cool!
It's a pretty fun choose your own adventure game! I love the graphics and everything, but I'd like to be able to maybe actually play the games a little? Just a little more control.
You scoundrels!
This games isn't 400mb. It's 1.14 GIGA-FRAKKING-BYTE.
Ahem. Whatever. The game!
Impressive work. How many pics are in there? I wonder. Sadly the nature of it precludes too much interactivity. Still cool though!
This was amazing, nicely done. I can't believe you made it in just 3 days, but you can even see the sun setting a few times because of the shadows in the images.
You should expand a bit your toolset/knowledge though, you could have made this weight a lot less with some clever code tactics. Also I have to say I don't see the theme clearly either.
Also, did you actually drink all that vodka or was it a different bottle?
Also, poor Monopoly.
Wow, You really worked on this. I expected some 'OK, this is akward' or 'split fighters' (wich I loved), but suddenly saw all those stop motion anims and...great, really well done man.
I'm so honoured that the creator of those games I liked so much enjoyed my game >_< Thank you for playing!
Did I just play a stop motion docurotica game about board games?
@all of you : thanks for the compliments and advices.
@Matthias : 2011 pics. We wanted to make one more to fit the years, but were too exhausted.
@BNeutral : The vodka was fake, the rum wasn't.
@Ragzonken : May we steal that description ? ^^
Great experience: a stop-motion game, what an idea!
I don't understand the complaints about compliance with the theme... the evolution of board games is, for me, clearly presented and fairly well led by the dialogues.
In 2 words : great job !
Nice idea! Got some problems when moving to new games. It took a lot of time. Maybe some preloading.
I'm giving you a lot of score for your effort, the game...remember me of Monkey Island and those times... cool,
would like to use this to make my gf like rolplay :)
Nice animation and funny experience but I don't see the relationship with the theme ^^' And I think it's not really a game but it's fun and very inovate ! Good job !
Woha, an interactive stop-motion story, with amazing pixel art.. It was surpisingly awesome! Grat job!
Okay, so I had this in bookmarks for a few days now, remembering your entries from past LDs. It took me some time to get to it, because I knew I would need some time to fully appreciate this one, but here I just ran it.
Your math stated in comments sounds fishy, I say! 2011pics x 200k each should be ~400M! :P This is the biggest game I've seen on the LD (1.1GB unpacked!), which is its only flaw (smaller photos? with some light compression you could do 640x480 and 100k/pic; I doubt you could loose more by using videos though), because it tends to kill the hard drive, though I suspect this has to do with the exe-packaging. I also think that you just reached AGS limits, but too see something this interesting done with AGS is pretty cool.
I love the theme, and that every run-through is short enough to let me find all endings. I can see the evolution here, though it might be a little stretchy. Anyway, the game is sweet and has a nostalgic ring to it, even without audio (though it would add so much!). Also, I'm impressed by how interesting and subtle (yes, even the scrabble part! :P) is the use of sex in your game (not explicit, graphic, just "it's there, it's fun" kind of use). Loved it altogether (I'm biased, since I love to play modern boardgames) - it's a perfect, story-driven experience. Awesome entry!
I thought this was great, loved the use of stop-motion photography (great to see the Hero Quest figures in there too, that brings back memories!). Very original entry, well done!
Impressive work. The most original game I have played this compo.
It's an amazing technical achievement, to be sure! I mean, really, really amazing!! The stop-motion looks really good and to think it was done in 72 hours - WOW.
Unlike everyone else, however, I didn't like the gameplay at all. It's just clicking through to see all the different animations; there's no risk or reward and not enough story development to give me any reason to care about or relate to these characters. I might have enjoyed seeing all the animations but I got frustrated from having to click through and watch all of the identical beginning and ending parts each time.
I guess it just wasn't my cup of tea, since everyone else loves it. Good job!
Hey, you're getting better and better at drawing characters. Nice use stop-motion, very original idea, it's the first time I see it in a LD game and the first time I play this kind of game.
Many choices in the dialogues that change completely the game, but you have to restart again and again to see everything, it's a bit repetitive. I wish the choices you made have an influence on the evolution of the characters relationship when you return to the guy's place to play again.

No seriously... Why is it this huge? Downloading...
