August 24th-27th 2012 :: Theme: Evolution
(Source included with download)
(Now ported)
In 'Natural Selection' you, a giant amoeba with a gun, must fight throughout the history of evolution in order to win natural selection!
While the graphics remain primative throughout, the music (which I'm rather proud with) develops and becomes faster, evolving as you go through the levels.
I kept a small journal here: www.nickolai51-dev.blogspot.co.uk

Thanks! Yeah, that's the major pitfall of this really... and something I need to work on. It's because I'm using a horrible hack for the mouse movement (which is why I couldn't port it), but it works best with a mouse and windows 7.
Really, thanks for the comments though!
Having said that, checked the rules and porting can be done after the 48 hours, so now it's ported and will hopefully work fine on most systems!
Nice game! The only bad point I found was the mouse control, it was really slow to move.
Cool game (ha ha, butterflies). The music is indeed neat - I'm impressed you managed to do so many tracks. The mouse movement is, indeed, still a problem. It might have been better with a control scheme like Doom - WASD to move, L/R arrows to aim, Ctrl to fire.
Well, the controls make this game goddamn hard, but I managed to get the penicillin dying only twice :D
Haha, thanks guys! Hmm.. seems like I'll have to work on mouse controls next time :P though BMacIntosh's idea seems pretty good. I think the problem arose from me testing with quite a sensitive mouse...
Nice to see an FPS entry! Definitely stands out. Good to see a story too.
Kind of felt like I was playing inside that old windows maze screensaver. Was well done though. Very enjoyable
Now this game is fun! :D Nice FPS in 48h. Yes the mouse is slow. But I have problems with other things like why are the textures disorting on the walls depending on the viewing angle? Drawing order is messed up on the sprites - tha nearer one is drawn first. Finally I have the floor and ceiling flashing - getting lighter - every once in a while but don't know for sure when and why.
Anyway I liked it and did a walkthrough: http://youtu.be/1yZ4jLUD75k
Wow! Thanks! :D
Yes, those things all bugged me too... In order to speed up the whole dev process I had used a really simple 3D renderer rather than openGL, whose z-sorting didn't really work and with a horrible lighting effect...
Was fun to play, here is my feedback:
- Turning the view is too slow! (Or did I have a mouse problem?)
- I wouldn't spawn enemies directly after start
- Funny creatures and some thrill if the monsters walking around the corner
- If you make a post-compo-version, I would add some gameplay elements like hit zones (headshots), enemie attacks, switches with timers and... jumping (with jump&run-parts).
- The graphics and audio have really their own crazy charm :)
Thank you :)
Your mouse is fine, others have said the sensitivity is too low...
And yes, I might add to this and improve it later, cheers for the ideas!
It would be nice to have full health by the time you either finish a level or enter a new one. The mouse sensitivity is too low for me as well. I liked the variety of music!
Overall it was a fun game with good music and a cool concept behind it, the mouse worked but it was almost unplayable due to the very low sensitivity, besides that good job! =)

It seems really cool, and I really like the music, and the sense of humor.
However, the mouse controls weren't that good. I honestly couldn't aim at all; my view just kept floating up to the top. I kept trying to fight the controls, but it just wouldn't work. I gave up on the first level.
Sorry man, the game really seems cool, honest, but the aiming, unless I'm horribly mistaken, doesn't work at all and sort of ruins the game for me. It's a real shame, because from what I can see, it genuinely seems like a cool little game.
