August 24th-27th 2012 :: Theme: Evolution
Meet Charles Darwin.
He wants to prove his evolution theory and he is really a badass. In order to complete his mission he must find 6 skulls of human ancestors and he will do anything to get them: crawl throughout dark caves, punch predators in a face with his cane, dive under the water, robbing ancient graves. No one can stop evolution!

Pitzik4, skeletons are for decoration only. Skulls you need are deeper in the cave.
Beautiful graphics! However the gameplay needed some work. Movement felt very slippery, and jumping was kinda floaty. Fix up those issues and the game will be much better! Lots of points on humor for the concept.
I saw a few of your mid-jam posts and was looking forwards to this one.
Cool stuff. Love the graphics.
I think its super awesome that you're using cocos2d-x too!
Nice graphics! I love how it has rounded corners and cobwebs! nice!
So thats how Darwin came up with his theory! Great graphics, fun take on the theme. As others mentioned the controls are not perfect + its difficult on a QWERTZ keyboard. Thanks for reviewing our game!
One of the best games I've played so far! And I've played a lot :-)
Close brush, I called my entry 'Super Charles Darwin' :D
Fortunately though we have taken quite opposite approaches to the subject matter.
I'll get the few criticisms out of the way: the jumping is oddly floaty and it feels very hard to avoid enemies or kill them with the very short ranged cane.
Now the design is wonderful all around. All the environments, enemies and items are absolutely lovely.
The music and sound effects are also totally fitting and the game stays interesting for quite some time.
Great job here!
Very cute, and a really funny idea. I like the artwork as well - totally cool and thematic, with a nice 8-bit flavor. Very fun. The game was a little hard to succeed with; I would have appreciated some indication of where my attack zone was, like a swoosh behind the cane, and I agree with others here that the jumping mechanism was a little unexpected. I also didn't like that monsters regenerated when you returned to a level, even if you'd killed them seconds before. The sounds, art, and monster variety are great, and I just love the theme - so funny. Great work.
Good ideas and the level design flows quite well. However i feel a bit underpowered playing as Darwin. i just held down the attack button and kept running. I think maybe giving him another attack or with a cool down would have helped a lot. I do really like the visual style and the music is quite nice.
Wow, well made. The only thing I felt was missing was the ability to crouch... man did I want to duck so many times. Maybe that was deliberate though I don't know. Either way, very well made and I enjoyed it highly!
Awesome idea! Great mood, graphics, audio!
Yeah the gameplay is a bit floaty and a few times I died simply because during the room transition I collided with an enemy that respawned too close but it's still good! Great work :)
I have played the game a lot of times, and I am still not bored with it! Man! The game is great, I love it!
A lot to like here.
Darwin looks great. Nice touches in the border and a retro Arcade feel (including old fashioned no-save tough gameplay). I like the idea of Darwin as an posh superhero. Maybe could use some more tweaking in movement.
I found the combat was a little too hard. Especially bats and your floating jump. I ended up taking a lot of damage and dying. Good work on the theme and story.
While this was pretty solid, especially visually, there were too many problems to make it completely enjoyable. The attack collisions were a bit wonky and the controls a bit slippery. When you go from some rooms to another you can get hit by enemies and there is little you can do about it (I'm talking about that bat above the pit, mainly). But what annoyed me the most were the loud sound effects, especially jumping (or the soft music, depending on how you look at it.) But if those things are fixed this could be really good!
Nice theme, very nice sprite art and decorations. So many narrow tunnels reminded me of Kid Icarus on NES, which is a compliment.
Would it possible to scale the game up to 2x or 4x pixel size? I must be getting old, and all these web games with small windows. :)
No saving. Hardcore, man. Well, I'm sure I've seen enough to rate this, other than the ending. Nice art.

How do I pick up skulls? I found a skeleton in a cave, but I couldn't take its skull.
