August 24th-27th 2012 :: Theme: Evolution
*Edit: Added a version of my game that you shouldn't have to install I believe. *
We present to you Evo Smash, our second Ludum Game Jam entry.
Take control of a species and lead your warriors to victory. Gather food by defeating enemies to create more creatures and use DNA obtained from fallen comrades to strengthen and evolve your species.
Sorry to those without Windows, but again we made our game with XNA as it was the only language we have any experience with. You can download XNA for Windows here.

Download and extract the .rar file and run setup.exe
We hope you have as much fun playing it as we had making it. :)

I filled in the info at the bottom, I'm confused as to why it isn't showing up :\
I tried this out, it runs very smoothly on my system. Classic game mechanics with some nice touches such as choosing a side and the day/night cycle. I think it just needs to be a bit more challenging and tactical. Good effort though.
I had fun with this. I liked the different types of creatures, though I think it could have used more options to make it more strategic
First note, both your "Windows" and "Installer" links go to the same file which is the installer (A bit of a bummer since I wanted to avoid installing). Any I did install and play. Pretty cool; felt a lot like "Sword & Soldiers" but much faster... a bit too fast actually. I didn't have enough time to really determine a strategy based on intelligence points, and every time I tried to get the surplus food to get an extra IP I would get overrun. In the end what seemed to work was spam the build unit button and use superior numbers to overtake my opponent.
When I tried to run it after installing XNA, I get this nastiness:

Not sure, what to do about that one. Nothing comes up when I run it in command line either. I'll try running it on Wine next.
hmm, sorry i cant play, it crashes when I try to run the game:(
Hi, sorry to hear you are having trouble running our game. From a quick Google search I came up with http://xboxforums.create.msdn.com/forums/p/36100/209306.aspx, which basically says it's a condition that affects a very limited number of machines trying to run XNA. Sorry but I don't know of any way to fix it.
I had no problems running the game on win7 64 I didn't boot into GNU/Linux yet to try it.
I like the music a lot and the animations. I felt like the AI was holding back because it had 1000+ food when I was winning. but hey 3 days is not that much time.
Thanks a lot I had fun.
Had to use the full installer, guess I didn't have XNA 4.0 yet. After that it worked fine on my Win7 64bit system. Well, I won the game, was fun leveling up my little guys, but seemed to be over too quick, didn't really get a chance to evolve them much. Cool.
Took me ages to figure out that you can scroll the screen left and right.
I liked the concept but gameplay was a little short...also it was cool how it switched from day to night...
Some nice little touches in the game, but there's nearly no strategy on it. Just spawn creatures as fast as you can, wait for the DNA to reach 500 and evolute. It becomes too easy.
But its a staple for an interesting game that could come.
All is fine, though I think it's a bit too easy, or needs balancing. I won before I could see all the evolutions!
Didn't get the feeling I was playing a game but more an interactive movie. A bit more strategy (like stopping the critters allowing them to evolve or be more defensive) might have given more depth to the game.
A pretty fun concept, and good audio. I found the gameplay a bit dull after a few rounds of evolution though.
I installed the game and it worked perfectly. Cool, but is very easy, no challenges.
So complex game for this little time. I didn't liked the fact that the monster disappear to doing damage to enemy structure, but the rest is ok. Good job!
if XNA is one of the scripting languages for the internet then just put it up.
Nice idea, but it was to easy. Maybe food and DNA should have just been just variable? I never had to worry about food.

Hrmm...I think you forgot to link to the download for your game, all I see is the XNA installer link...
