I really enjoyed this entry. It really stuck to the theme, and it managed to tell a story in few pixels.
I think that as a negative, the evolution mechanics were tied to your position in the level. It would have been cool to have a problem that could only be solved by jumping in place or running back and forth - the rigidity of the level design detracts from the evolutionary mechanics.
That said - you stuck to the theme, and built a game with solid mechanics and a neat twist on traditional platformer games. I hope that you develop this further!
I really loved the way you used different sounds, when you move or jump and they change depending on your level of jump move or fire, makes it blend in with the music background, I really liked it.
Game play was also good, but those turrets could get annoying , maybe take how much damage they do down a little bit or give the player more health :)I'd like to see this game again later
I loved the sound effects! I also liked the combat, hiding behind blocks was a nice touch.
The movement in the last part of the last level (the jumping) was a bit tricky, took me a few attempts. I'd also like to see more levels ^^
Made it through some levels but then suddenly a glitch(?) dropped me through the floor.
I actually like the way the abilities improve upon succesful usage, you can get some nice puzzles from that.
The background color really doesn't contrast well enough with the tiles...or maybe I'm just blind :)
Thanks for all the feedback. @theomnis good point, wasn't sure if I should make this change to the compo version so I uploaded a higher contrast version here:

Really liked the way it felt. Level design was also pretty good. The only thing that felt odd was combat. It seemed like the only way to win was buy getting in front of the blaster, taking fire, and hoping you didn't take too much damage. Other than, really fun game! One of my favorites so far.
