Biovolve - Cryptix - 48 Hour Compo Entry

Biovolve is a simple game where you have to evolve your character to overcome certain obstacles.
There are 3 different evolutions, fire, water and grass. To evolve you have to search for the specific evolution orb.

I love the graphics and the game design!
Some points:
- When you press JUMP rapidly in mid air, the character is like hovering. Is this behavior wanted? Its a little disturbing sometimes
- I didn't get the point of evolving back to grey?
- At a certain point, the same level was launched over and over. Did a reach the end of the game?
- According to me, the difficulty is not increasing enough and fast enough. I nearly never died. The game needs some enemies maybe, or obstacles (pikes, ...)?

PS: I went in the water being grey, it happened once. The high falling speed may cause it? (I was jumping from a cliff)

The jump issue is one i need to work on, but probably won't happen by tonight.
It evolves back to grey every level because of i wanted each level to be seperate and it changes in the level at some point just because i wanted to confuse people :)
I think if i rework on this game, I will work on making the levels more complex.

Regarding the issues, can I ask where you played it and which level, etc.

Neat little game. Really has all the things you'd expect. I felt the jumping was a bit too floaty and there were a few too many obstacles to jump around, though. I liked the idea of three core elements which recur throughout the game. However, it would be interesting to make the puzzles more thoughtful. Right now each room feels a bit like a fetch quest.

I really enjoyed the sound, and the visuals were decent, although they were simple. The only complaint is that when I did die, it felt like it was due to the controls and physics not being super tight. That may just be my monkey hands though. Great job!

I got stuck in the bottom right-hand corner of the first ice level. You might consider lowering one of the platforms so you can get out?

Other than that, a nice solid little platformer. Some of the powerups seemed redundant though, unless they get mixed in later levels.

Kongregate submission in 48 hours, nice.

I glitched into the water (through the kill trigger?) in the level with the water.

Overall a very cool little puzzle-light platformer. Good audio, effective graphics. When I picked up the first power up and started flashing red I knew exactly what was going on.

It took a good deal of time to load, but my god, it is adorable! It honestly felt more like getting random power-ups than actual evolution, though...

Nice job! I was hoping the levels would get more complicated and require switching between two orbs in the correct order or something, but I didn't reach any levels like that.

@Cryptix: I played the game on Chrome, and the last level I played was a fire level, with big stairs on fire leading to the exit door.

The trees are a bit too thin and make awkward blockers/platforms from both a visual and gameplay perspective.

In the second lava level you can get stuck and be forced to use the restart key. This is jarring to gameplay and can be solved though thoughtful level design. (for example water/lava/spikes instead of a plain floor.

Really, really good, I really enjoyed its simplicity and the graphics were nice and clean. Only thing for me was the music, it annoyed me bad :)

Very nice game, i found a bug in the fourth level (i think it is, the lava again) where i got stuck and have to reset the game...
I love the idea of using masks like Nihilumbra for iOS ;)

I was looking forward to play this game mainly because it was a platformer, and the graphics looked nice. I really liked the mood set up with the graphics and music. I liked the 'exploration' feel of most of the levels, but I think that many of the levels, especially in the first half, were filler, and could probably be taken out. Those levels got a bit repetitive at a point. I think the levels toward the end with all 3 elements were the best since they not only had an exploration kind of feel to them, but there were also jumping puzzles and you had to think a little to get to the powerups.
There were a few glitches, like in one level you had to touch the goal just right or else it would restart, and you can float by repeatedly tapping up, etc. but they were mostly pretty minor. Great job! I had fun playing.

I agree on the bugs, but I'm not going to fix them for the comp, because I don't think thats right. But I will hopefully go through the game again, and focus on making proper levels. Maybe a few easy levels, and then straight to mixed levels.
So look out for a decent game soon :)

Nice little platformer. I think I completed the game, at least I got to a level which just keeps repeating itself. I like the graphics, very simple but very effective. A puzzle element where you have to get the orbs in the right order may have been nice.

On one level, my character just fly, I'm not sure it was part of the game. Otherwise it could be interesting not to restart the music each time, tunes are quite nice it's a pity to interrupt them.

Good game, simple and fun. i think there needs to be more "story" to it, which I think could be solved by grouping the level types, e.g. all the forest levels, then all the water levels, and finally all the fire levels. As I got further in the game things seems to slow & chug a bit when the character jumped, might be a memory leak or something.
