by VDZ - 48 Hour Compo Entry

(UPDATE: A post-LD version of the game with direct real-time online battles against other players can be found at . CREATUREs evolved with the LD version can be used in the new version, but not vice versa, and any EXP (or other changes) gained in the new version will be reverted if you play that CREATURE in the original LD version again. To use your old creature, unrar to the same folder or copy the access file. For judging, please use the original version linked in big letters above, rather than the new version.)

NOTE: If problems occur while trying to access the DIGIEVO system, please ensure that the computer trying to access the DIGIEVO system is a Windows PC equipped with the following supporting software:
* .NET Framework 4:
* XNA Framework 4:

Thank you for subscribing to the DIGIEVO system. The DIGIEVO system allows you to EVOLVE a CREATURE to battle other CREATUREs. In order to EVOLVE your CREATURE, you must win battles to gather EXP, then ask other players for the CODE of their CREATUREs. You will then be able to EVOLVE your CREATURE by learning MOVEs and TRAITs of the CREATURE you entered the CODE of.

The system has support for battling pre-generated CREATUREs (LOCAL BATTLE), as well as random CREATUREs of other players (RANDOM BATTLE). You can also choose to have friendly battles with other players' creatures through the CUSTOM BATTLE and AUTO BATTLE functions.

Feel free to use the messaging system on this page (also known as 'the comments') to share the CODEs of your CREATUREs. For an example of the EVOLUTION system, you can enter the CODE 'TRANSFER FINAL FIRE GRID' to access one of the pre-made DIGIEVO CREATUREs.

Game updated, you can now battle other players (with both players picking their attacks rather than attacks being randomly picked). Use the link at the top of the description to download it; please do note that LD entries should be judged by their original version, not any post-LD updated version.

A very good effort, can't believe you've actually been able to put this kind of a system in place during one weekend. The sharing of evolution codes is a great idea, a shame there weren't more codes to take advantage of. Overall this package was very complete, with nice music, a consistent graphical style and fun gameplay.

Since this entry was so complete, I'm just gonna go ahead and list the stuff I would've liked done differently. :P

-The selection style in battles: there should be an option to have the cursor stay on the previously selected ability.
-More variety in local battles in order to make playing the game more varied when there aren't any players to play against (battles against dummies and disablers get kinda old :P)
-A way to evolve your creatures without the codes of other players
-Some explanations on the mechanics of the game while playing (what does power rating do? why don't my stats get higher the higher my power rating is? is there any way to get better other than to copy traits and moves from other people?)
-The selection color should be of bigger contrast compared to other menu items, sometimes it was hard picking out what item you actually have selected
-Esc should go back in menus
-Menus should scroll while holding a key down

There is obviously a lot of potential in this kind of a system, I'm a bit worried though since in the beginning the experiences are a lot more limited than what the raters will have in the future. I wouldn't have listed all this negative stuff if I didn't think your game was awesome though. :D

-while ripping off other chars for moves and traits, it would be nice to see your own exp pool somewhere
-while entering evolve codes it would be nice to have a list of codes previously entered

I'm 'NET VIRUS LARGE DIGITAL' This reminds me of barcode battler except this is much much better then that. Had good fun with this game, i can see the links to the evolution in there also.

Really enjoyed the music and this game seems completely bug free, well done!

"FREE is charging an attack!
But FREE avoided the attack!"
In a random battle, I fought myself.

Luckily, I don't have to fight myself when I comment on your game. I like the mechanics, the sound and the Pokemon-style battle log. The code evolution idea is quite original, and makes it feel like a community game. I can't believe you were able to make all this in 48 hours. Great job.

I like it!
No other game in this LD looks anything like this. Thankfully other players offered their code (mine is NORMAL CYHER LIGHT INIT). The graphics in like as well. Just the highlighting of the selected menu item is not very clear.

Neat concept. The sound was pretty nicely done.
