August 24th-27th 2012 :: Theme: Evolution
Controls: x to start and arrow keys to move.
Collect the strands of DNA so that you can evolve and adapt to your environment. Rise up the food chain and conquer the eco system!
The coding took far longer than I had planned so I never really had time to do any polishing! The graphics are all placeholders but its playable. I hope you enjoy it!

I completed it. Actually the game looks surprisingly like my own game (nom's evolvathlon), so of course I like this game :-) I think the graphics are actually atmospheric (though I don't like your drawing of a monkey much:-)).
Pretty good, perhaps some enemies or one evolution step could have been sacrified in favor of polishing the movement feeling (momentum, mainly)
Jumping was a bit clumsy and very linear level design. But good idea.
I wanted to ask what the jumping four-legged green thing was supposed to be, but I guess I don't really want to know :D
Good progression, liked getting out of the water. I didn't mind the graphics, some animations would have been nice though.
I especially liked the description of the lifeforms. I didn't see many of them, because control of the fish seemed very random to me.
Nice idea, played through to completion, a complete game as in you have a beginning, middle and end point which is great. My only criticism is that is felt some of the hit boxes seemed a little off but hey, this is a 48 hour competition, this stuff happens. A solid effort.
I am a homo erectus now, but I have taken the lower left dna as the last one. No I am stuck. Nice game!
Fits the theme very well and the level design is good. The jumping felt a little strange to me, almost as though it was levitating or a jet pack or something - a little too smooth and slow to rise. Overall, good work.
for some reason to start i had to press Shift-x instead of just x and the title screen says 'uiversal' instead of universal otherwise I really like the gameplay and theme integration...
jumping was a bit strange, and at the very beginning, i didn't even know where or what i was. maybe would have helped to have clearer graphics (like big red). also the enemies where really very linear. it would have been nice if the sharks would have followed you or sth, like the fishing minigame from zelda-link's awakening. and music would have been nice ;)
When i wanted to start again, i've appeared in plankton form at top of the level) Overall it's quite interesting
Fun game, I wanted there to be more. The jumping felt a bit odd at times.
yeah the problem with the Time, who of us doesn't know it ;)
so simple but good to play. I like short games, that are you can complete in reasonable time
I enjoyed the game though I got stuck in the first time I played ( turn homo erectus after grabbing the DNA piece on the right tree and was then stuck ). Even for placeholders, I did like the graphics. A game I'd honestly like to be pushed after the compo.
Thanks for all the comments and feedback so far guys, keep it coming. I'd like to follow up with an improved version of the game after the compo so your comments are really valuable. Ive fixed the spelling error in the title screen as thats allowed under the rules (my 'n' key is a bit temporomental), but the rest will have to wait for version 2!
The controls need a tuning, but it's fun. I like the minimalist art.
good idea- i liked how it all happened in one single map and you keep growing to be able to get to the further along parts- being the agile mouse pissed me off though- i kept dying and could not get that last pedestal passed the bees! damn those bees!
Liked it, but feels like player's hitbox is larger than visible sprite.
Great game! Really liked it, I loved the graphics. A very nice game indeed!
An ambitious effort! The theme was well executed and you have crammed a lot of game in here. The controls felt a bit sluggish and unresponsive though. You need to spend a bit more time on how your game feels to play.
Quite good, actually. Good overall progression and generally pretty playable. My main issue was the placement of checkpoints, which was sometimes really frustrating (especially with the monkey) and the collision and physics are pretty iffy. Great overall though.
Cool little game, but the fact that hitboxes are messed up and movement doesn't feel as smooth as it could ruins the fun in no-time. Not sure why seagrass would hurt me, either, that was an unpleasant surprise. :D
As for hit detection, it's really to get it pixel-perfect with flixel by using photonstorms flixelpowertools - there's a class called FlxCollision in there which is really handy for this.
The game is probably a bit too linear indeed. On the other hand, I like that you can see so much of the level.
The graphics could need a bit of polish. I suggest you to work on it a bit more to turn this into a fairly good game :)
Nice idea, i don't liked how they jump, but i really appreciated the infinite lives. Maybe if there was another stage after human it would be better, but overall it's a good game!

The idea was good, but it was too linear, It would have been better if there had been more exploration.
