Lenimentus

by firehand94 - 48 Hour Compo Entry

Tried going with the Graphical restrictions of the ZX spectrum Palette and Resolution(ish.. ok not really the Resolution)

The Goal of the Game is very Simple Locate and Destroy the 10 Urns of Evil (The Things Spawning the Eyes)

You have Three Weapons at your disposal a Red Flamethrower, Blue Spreadshot, and Yellow grenade.

Red is Strong Vs Yellow
Blue is Strong Vs Red
Yellow is Strong Vs Blue

As you progress you will acquire DNA which you can use to upgrade your weapons

Read the Readme for a Full List of Controls.

Hope You Enjoy the game (and I hope nothing breaks between me packing the zip file and you opening the game)

The Game Is Multi-platform and should Run on Linux, Mac, And Windows

EDIT: Uploaded version with arrowkey support for firing, No other changes I'm not too sure why I didn't have this in already.

I have a feeling I would be much better at this game if I had a numpad...

Well, I still suck at shooters :) I like the background music. Fits nicely with the overall retro-style.

tigerj would you mind running the game in command prompt with java -jar "PathToTheGame\Lenimentus.jar" and tell me the error message it gives I can see if I can fix it.

Nice game, but I'm terrible at it! The background tiles are a bit high contrast to fit with the DNA, but overall the graphics are solid, gameplay feels smooth, there's a moderately interesting variety of weapons/enemies, and balance is good (just hard!)

Difficult by fun

I think this could really rock! But two problems,1) I have a macbook air with no numpad to fire and 2) I'm a lefty and WASD is like righties playing COD with the arrow keys. Oh well not a big deal since most people don't fit this bill

Now for the cool stuff...
The mechanics were good, i thought the speed and pace of the game kept up good tension while playing. The heavy tempo in the sound kept it kinda racing. I thought the red, green blue concept and the damage matrix was really neat.

Good job and I will now have to break out my PC to play it. :)

Well the shooting part and switching weapon was fun but I was very bad it. My maximum score is one urn. Maybe starting with smaller and easier would have help me to improve my skill without frustrations.

I really liked this game. Good premise, and having to switch weapons based on the colour of the enemies was a great idea. The difficulty is pretty high too, which made it a challenge.

In future please make sure you put the game into a folder when you zip it - it makes it much faster to extract for people like me who download many games at once :)

For me the only real default of this game (like a lot of others) is the WASD controls because I have a azerty keyboard so it was almost impossible to manage to move properly and switch colors easily.
But anyway, I like it :)

90 that's a good point I should add configurable controls

Kind of fun. I found myself ignoring the whole weakness chain in favor of just upgrading one weapon to max and clearing the hallways with it, and played about 10 minutes that way wrecking face before I got bored.
Lots of screen flicker when I move around, though. You should look into double buffering.

An interesting and challenging entry. I also found the weakness chain a little hard to exploit at the pace the game moves.
