August 24th-27th 2012 :: Theme: Evolution
Hey guys, so here's the deal...
Arrows to move, Z to jump, X to attack, Enter to Pause/Unpause
*as this is an HTML5 game, it is best run in Chrome or Firefox and WebGL is required, apologies to older machines that don't support this*
With this entry, nothing worked, at all... This weekend was full of non-stop frustration for me, but I insisted on submitting an entry and this is what I wound up with. Playing long enough will reveal how the theme is included, though I can't say I'm particularily proud of my concept, it's nothing remotely original, all I can hope is that you guys find it fun instead.
There is a known bug, though its rare, but if you find that your opponent stops taking damage, you'll have to press F5 to restart. Sorry about this, but we all know how Ludum Dare entries can go :D
I'm a member of Fireskies Studios, a very small indie group based on Vancouver Island in Canada, please feel free to stop by our rarely updated website http://www.fireskiesstudios.com/ it's been a while, but we've been busy working, not web mastering lol

Really love the art style. Wish there was a little more variation in the attacks, but overall a really fun game.
Reminds me a bit of slime volleyball. Kind of hard to make strategy for this, you just spam the attack. Sometimes the AI gets like 6 attacks in a row.
i like the art style, music gets old REALLY fast though, and every time it loops it lags the game for a second.
Contrary to your description, this game does not seem to require WebGL. I noticed, because this worked on my old laptop. :)
It will default back to Canvas2D, so it'll still run, it'll just be lacking some of the visual polish
The music stopped looping for me but html5 would do that. I only got as far as the first evolution when I died but the repetitive combat got to me and I left it at that.
Very nice graphics, especially the little touches like slight parallax scrolling and the grass moving :)
Audio is also fitting and nice.
Movement feels a bit non-physical. Some reactions to the hits, like being thrown back etc. would make it feel a bit more 'solid'
Good jon.
The first fighting game I see here. Very good! Esthetics are nifty too!
As foxor said my first impression was "Slime Volleyball!!!". But actually, this may have even been more fun than that. Sweet gameplay and graphics.
I evolve 3 times before I get tired. It would be better if enemies evolves too. Anyway very good work! ;)
Seams buggy- I evolved once (Awesome run cycle on the second guy by the way :) ) but then I was unable to hit the enemy slime anymore. he was at 1hp and I had 10 and he killed me- nothing was hitting him. I restarted and then it happened again on the second slime I fought.
Game play needs some work but the art was cool and the game was pretty fun (when it was working...)
I like the idea of combining an rpg with a beat 'em up, it looks great and plays quite well.
Very nice looking, 8bit feel. I found it hard to feel like I was controlling the combat very well - attacks seemed to work or not work at random, and jumping didn't seem to provide any significant advantage or disadvantage until the stage where I got legs, at which point I couldn't seem to hit at all with a ground attack. I think with some more work this could be really cool, but it's impressive for 48 hours.
This is a solid entry, despite any troubles you had along the way. =) Really like the graphic style!

The graphics are wonderful, I would like to see all of the evolutions, maybe once I am done playing through all these submissions I will come back to it.
