August 24th-27th 2012 :: Theme: Evolution
EvoBlob is a side-scrolling, puzzle game. You must eat critters you find around the levels to evolve new abilities that you can then use to overcome the obstacles preventing you from eating the super awesome golden nugget.
Also included is a level editor you can use to create your own levels (you can even use your own 32x32 tiles if you like)!
=== Game Controls ===
Movement: Arrow keys, VI keys, or Joypad
Jump: Z or A button
Eat: X or X button
Explode: Hold A or Y button (in case you get trapped)
=== Requirements ===
You'll need the XNA 4.0 Redistributable, available at:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20914
EvoBlob was also a family game jam:
Dad - code
Mom - level design
Teen - graphics, level design
Toddler - game design, supervision
We hope you enjoy playing it as much as we did creating it. Feedback is welcome and encouraged! :D

great job -- our family made a game too -- hope you had as much fun as we did.
Actually I think this is pretty polished, novel idea and the level design was well though out, great job!
That's pretty cool you guys made this game as a family. I thought the game mechanic and the level design were pretty solid. It would have been better if you told the player what "burst" meant. I only figured it out after I restarted from the title screen once. But I had a lot of fun!
There is a bug In the right part of the second level where after getting the spider's ability if i go right the screen doesn't scroll right and i fall through the level so I can't valorate all the levels, but the concept is great so I have givent it a good punctuation
Unfortunately, the game makes WINE explode. Re-scanning the description, I realize it's because it's XNA.
A very interesting concept! A family game for the jam was an awesome idea, I hope you guys had a lot of fun with that.
Niiice! Great idea to turn your blob into anything it "touches." Okay, the blob eats them, so I won't feel to sympathetic.
In addition, that's awesome that the whole family pitched in towards developing the game.
Although the comments sound really tempting, I don't want to install XNA Redistributable now.
Pretty cool game, I especially like the idea that you can choose which animals to eat in order to progress. The graphics were also nice and you succeeded in creating a functioning platforming system.
I did get stuck once or twice, though. Therefore, a fast respawn system would be a nice addition.
A lot of fun! Good job :) People seriously need to stop leaving comments on games that are only available for Windows, just to say that they don't work on another OS under emulation - especially when that game is written on a framework/engine that everyone knows doesn't work well under emulation.
Interesting game. The controls feel a little weird. It's strange that as a spider I am able to walk the ceiling but not on a wall ^^
Overall it was a fun game.
This game has too awesome graphics my video card can't handle apperantly... sad because I'm jealous of you having everyone in the family contribute to the game together.

Despite the lack of polish, this was actually a really enjoyable game! I found it very nice that you guys created this as a family effort, kudos to you!
My only gripe about it is the control scheme was rather weird and a bit frustrating to use. Always try to be intuitive with your design. Instead of having one button to jump, one button to eat and a third one that makes the player shake...I'm not sure what that does, you could have actually grouped them all into an action button, that changes depending on what you're doing, or better yet, just make one button for jumping, and eating those creatures is done automatically when you touch them.
But other than that, fun game!
