This was my really first attempt at making a beat-em-up, and I did my best to be true to the models (Street of Rage & Double Dragon). I especially focused on the combat feedbacks, taking great ideas from Diablo 3 & Street Fighter 4 : slow motion, shakes, loads of particles...
Another thing I was really happy with were the character animations. You have to know : I can't draw. I mean, really. I never learned and if you ask me to draw a human face, it will look like a childish drawing of the monster under my bed. I'm just really bad at it. Digital painting is another story: I see it more like a technical thing rather than an artistic approach. The pixel grid is my friend. So, trying to animate a human character to make it look cool and powerful was really a huge challenge to me.
A big problem in this Ludum Dare entry was the theme, Evolution. I first wanted to stick to something like Corporate Climber, but with combat gameplay. But the timing was too short, and making a decent beat-em-up needed lots of details and attention. So I gave up most of the "evolution" related ideas (climbing hierarchy and unlocking special moves). Maybe I will add them back later?

Love the blue/yellow color-scheme of the first level. Gameplay is quite punchy and fun.
(I think it's possible to get stuck by shoving a plant in fron of the door. I wiggled myself through though)
Nice touches with environment interaction (desk movement, and being able to throw trash cans).

Wow i seen your demo in progress and that i was like "it's will be best game".
So this game is best as i think.
Great game, very impressive that you could make it so quickly. I thought the artwork was the best part. The gameplay itself was a bit drab. It would have been nice to be able to pick up objects and throw them. (Or maybe I missed that ability). I could see this evolving into a full blown game.

This was really fun to play. GFX and audio are top notch as usual :) One thing I did stumble on was difficulty curve. I demolished the first room, and the first couple people in the next room, then was unable to recover. Every time I got up I got knocked back again because there were too many guys in the small room. But I must admit, I will keep trying, because the combat has a nicely satisfying crunch. Good job!

Hi! Graphics and animations are great. Here some comments:
You can't pass to the next stage with a (exploding) trash can, instead you stay there with a strange holding-animation and without a trash can... my plan was to beat the kitten in the elevator with the explosion of the trash can xD
I think the game is too hard. It's very difficult to dodge the kittens bombs, even with the fast jump.
But as the others stated: impressive work.
I would love it if you could restart from the current "level" instead of going all the way back to the beginning. Otherwise...dang it man. Somehow you manage to make a killer game with a neat story and cool graphics in 48hrs.
Really polished, fantastic visual style; I would love to see more games look like this. Amazing to make this in 24hrs
Superb, it has only a tenuous connection to the theme but it really is very playable. You consistently produce brilliant games in such a short space of time.

Not seeing the theme in this really, but it's really amazing. Art to die for, and the controls are great. Yeah, couldn't pass round 1 either. Stupid bombs.
Very cool game, reminding a lot of old street of rage beat them all, with a smoother/more momentum to the controls.

I was blocked at round 3 with Miss Pantheora (excuse my spelling, couldn't defeat her and her "sibling"), it was nice playing it though.

I'm really sorry I could'nt stick more to the theme: I didn't have time to implement the whole story I had in mind, especially unlocking special moves as your salary rised. Maybe in a later version?

If I have to criticize something, that will be the little boring music and that's it's hard to defeat all of them (specially the kitty bombs),
A great game with stunning visuals, like all your entries so far :) It has kittens, so +1 ;) But as mentioned, it doesn't fit the theme. It's the first Beat 'em up I have seen on the LD, so I think it is innovative and I'm positive, that you will win another top position :)
I've noticed a bug : on my second try, I skipped the intro, and the bottom of the screen didn't change (i.e : no lifebars). Maybe it's because I couldn't play it to the end (my computer is slow and those kitties are bitches!) but I found the theme a bit light.
Aside from that, this is a marvellous game, as usual! Congrats!

That.. was.. epic. I really felt the character's pain and wanted to do everything in my power to get the compensation he deserves!! Art style was beautiful, animations were smooth, controls felt responsive, combat was engaging and fun. Overall just damn amazing.
There were just two nitpicks. The first is don't make the us reload the page to restart... I don't know how many static variables you used or what, but there are better ways than page refresh xD
The other is that it's be great if there was an indication of if/when a knocked down combatant was going to get back up. I often got sucker-punched by someone I thought was down for good while focusing on another opponent.

the feeling of the movement, with the animation and the kinetic thump of the fourth odd attack never ceases to be cool.
ignoring the wierd cat head ladies, has a very cool aesthetic, and great gameplay.
Great graphics, nice that you can push the desks around and stuff. The kitten sisters are hard to beat.
The only negative I could think of was there was only a loose connection to the theme, other than that its great!

Very cool streets of rage game! Loved the retro fighting game feel - I played about x4. I wish there was a bit more variety in the attacks though, maybe a kick button?
Chickens, elevators, Ryans everywhere, all the ingredients of a good beat em all are present.
Fortunately, there is no jump or a super attack, otherwise it would have been too excellent.
Just amazing gameplay. Felt like an old arcade machine. Hard though. Would love to just put in another quarter and keep going.
I fixed many minor problems and added respawn checkpoints as suggested in a post compo version :)

Not bad at all. I thought the gameplay and music was a bit bland, but it held up. Love the graphics. Overall though, I think it's a pretty nicely rounded entry. Fairly polished.

This is an amazing for a game made in 48 hours. The evolution tie in is a bit of a stretch but meh, it's still great. Love the feel of this game, looks great, the 6th punch combo force thinggie is a great touch.

AWESOME game! Congratulations! This is by far the most well polished entry I've seen in terms of graphics. The visual feedback of the punches is awesome and the main character movement feels very natural (more than most SNES beat-em-ups too).
By the way, I'm definitely keeping a link to this entry as a reference for combat visual and audio feedback. It's one of the next areas of enhancement in our main project.
