Convergent

by willh - 48 Hour Compo Entry

Run the runme.sh or runmeinwindows.bat, depending on your platform.

If they don't work, try running "java -jar ./Convergence.jar" from the command line.

Tips:
Your amount of blocks on the left hand side is your health.
If you lose all your health, the game will pause until you gain some more (you can't lose, though the game may crash at some point (that is a kind of losing)).
Match up different blocks side by side to improve your capabilities - place a damage enhancer (green sword) or rate of fire enhancer (green dots) next to a gun block to fire better. Avoid putting blocks that damage your gun's capabilities near it!

Bugs: if you do too well (and fill up the left hand side), the game can go a bit crazy and crash hard.
If you last for a long time, you can move faster than your bullets, so they just hang in front of you as you shoot them.

I love this! This is seriously cool. I adore games that force you to do two things at once, it is a very interesting state of mind to be in being forced to switch between two tasks. And you pull it off really well - in 48 hours of work, this is damn impressive. The best entry so far, in my most humble opinion. Fantastic work. Polish this up and release it!

I liked it... reminded me of one of my favorite JRPGs, "The World Ends With You". Doing two things at once is a tremendous cognitive delight, although I would have preferred if holding down would make my piece drop faster. But, that's just years of Tetris experience speaking. It got real hard, real fast. Nevertheless, I give you originality points for making me avoid and congeal (opposite tasks?) at the same time. Also, I would have loved to hear music from the mind that conceived this!

Thanks guys!
As you can imagine I had to cut a lot of planned features and the balancing is certainly skew-whiff, but since the general idea has been so well received I'll definitely keep working on it and turn it into something more substantial.

Very interesting adaptation of the concept and also control schemes in game in general.

I found my mind and eyes crossing between tasks, it was enjoyable, at times I felt the strain of balancing the chaos that was going on.

This game is so weird... tetris is sacred!

Wow, I think I need 2 brains running in parallel for this! :D Very nice graphics as well. Not 100% sure I know what I'm doing, and whether it constitutes 'winning' (not necessarily in the Charlie Sheen sense...), but I'm having fun. :)

A very trippy game, odd concept but pretty playable. Hope you develop it further.

I found this unplayably hard, but I'm giving you high ratings anyway because I love the idea (and also everyone else seems to think it's playable). I'd like to see this polished (and with variable difficulty please!)
