August 24th-27th 2012 :: Theme: Evolution
Evolution is music to Darwin's ears.
The game might be confusing at first because there's no goal. Click on the video link or copy and paste this url to see its full potential: http://youtu.be/2KoSzB4jWxQ
This is a sandbox/music game. Evolve the little critters by painting with the "reproduce" brush (or Press '3'). To make sounds out of them, drop little turtles and when they collide, they'll beep. If you don't like what some of the critters are doing, pick up the bird and eat 'em up.

What an interesting way to use the theme of evolution. Really fun to fiddle with for a couple seconds, although for some reason I can never get the creatures (or whatever 3 produces) to move anywhere horizontally, or place them where I want to. Definitely confusing, but still.
Here's a video that shows some of the cool things you can do in Darwinphony:

That video you posted is very helpful, especially in understanding how the little creatures reproduce and evolve. The game itself is definitely one of the most original and innovate things that I've seen in the competition so far.
Once I watched the video, then I had fun with this! Very nice. :)
I like it :) glad you put a video up to explain how everything works though - I'd have been completely lost otherwise!
Nicely done.
While I discovered some real nice musical patterns they were always just a bit off.
I've done something similar to this before, using the physics of dropped balls, and I think the problem is that those curves just don't generate very musical intervals. I wonder how hard it would be to quantize a gravity simulation, or perhaps provide a quantized grid the triggers might be locked to if so desired.
Umm... pretty confusing at first but then it was alright, quite interesting idea!
Quite confusing at first, but when you get it, it's pretty fun!
It takes time to understand that its the weird shapes that evolve and make music, not the turtles. Also, the buttons are kindof glitchy.

I really like the innovative concept and it was fun to play with but I found it too hard to isolate the sounds I wanted to make anything very musical. That parrot is really aggressive!

Super confusing at first, but I really liked playing around with this! well done
