August 24th-27th 2012 :: Theme: Evolution
The Highbred Pixel is sort of an experiment, where i played around with a few mechanics, and attempted to add some narrative.
You control a little pixel, in some sort of pixel breeding complex. The theme evolution had a great impact on the original design, but i had to chop up the game so much due to the time constraints, which is reflected in the game - its short. The theme is however still present, but not really as originally intended.
The dialogue itself was thrown in "on the fly", and i almost need to contain myself in order to not go in and edit, or rewrite the script!
But here it is! After ~15 hours of work clocked in, its at least playable from start to end, and you get to experience some cool mechanics!
It has been a blast, and i had a lot of fun doing it. Hope you'll have some fun playing it!
Do note:
- The windows version of the game does not support some WebGL features. Thus, it is advised to play it in Chrome (Web).
- When the screen suddenly goes black, you have reached the end of the game. The last part was done during the few last hours before the deadline so, my apologies for that!
Controls:
- Move with arrow keys.
- Hold space to stop time (when near an object or another pixel)
- Press space mulitple times to shoot (when available)

Did u hold space? :) Putting controls in the description now.
Definitely a different look and feel, which I liked. Controls were difficult however and I couldn't get past the first bit either... Too bad cos I think it has potential. Nice sound effects!
Very nice! I pressed the button, not quite sure if I lost or won...
Great job on building a mood, amazing what a few dripping sounds does :)
The jumping mechanic for the two platforms ... I have no skills, I can't seem to get past it.
Really cool game. Great art-style, atmosphere and good gameplay. Barely matched the theme, but cool as a prototype. Would like to see where you can go with it, if there is more time.
I really like the atmosphere of your game. The mechanic is also pretty interesting. Especially for the style of game you're making. I just thought, "GLaDOS!" When I was reading the text! Pretty cool. I can't really complain, for a game made in 15 hours. Bravo!
I want to try this, but the web version is ultra slow, and the downloadable version says it has stopped working, when I try to run it.
Very nice game. Visual style feels completely thought out and polished. Suitably hard puzzles, but nice quick pacing from one stage to another. This would definitely be very interesting as a more complete game.
Your graphics style was excellent!, and your sound sounded professional, the controls were a little hard for me.
Very nice game!
It turned pitch black after pushing that red button though...
Cool game mechanics, graphics and mood.
Thanks for the comments! And yeah, when the screen suddenly goes black, you have reached the end of the game. The last part was done during the few last hours before the deadline so, my apologies for that!
The first part, the continous up and down makes me crazy ;). But your Art Style is rare and the sound is clear and athmospheric. I think i need to take a closer look at Construct2.
thx for your game.
Fantastically moody game. I really liked the style of the graphics, and the sound fit it well too. The ending was kind of anticlimactic , though. Still great.
Really liked the art style and sound - please make it into a longer game! the jumping mechanics after you're evolved are excellent, I was afraid I was going to find that bit too hard when I realized how to get past it but the little guy responded exactly as I thought he should have, well done for paying attention to gameplay
Really, amazing game! Great atmosphere, sound and story. Probably, overall, the best game I've played so far. However, there were some issues, such as the game auto jumping constantly while being a pixel and the rate of firing in the second stage. Very good, despite this!
God this is pretty. Really, really love your art style. I love it so much.
Great entry. A bit short, but was interesting to play around with. The beginning of the game has an interesting mechanic that I haven't seen before. Would be interesting to see a longer version of this, if you think that's feasible.
The final jumping/freezing puzzle was VERY hard, until I realised I only had to jump on top of the pixel gun and ride it up.
The drips got a little repetitive, and the pipe sound was really loud compared with the background sounds.
Really clever, well executed puzzle mechanic and graphics.
Why did you submit it to Compo??? You should finish that game as Jam entry! I love sounds, and graphics but overall it's average game. :/
The graphics are so good looking and moody, I love them. The water drops are musical. Some good puzzles there as well. The controls were not so good, so after a while it got frustrating. But getting everything right in 48 hours is almost impossible (for me 72 hours was waaaay to short).
It was pretty stylish. :) And diverse gameplay too, now it needs more content.
Love the graphics and sound but found the controls very tricky to manage. Nice touch where the pixels help you climb up.
Really nice mood and graphics, although it didn't fit the theme too well.
