    RUN RUN AMOEBA - tigerj - Jam Entry

    HTML5 browser needed. Use the arrow keys absorb DNA to evolve into a faster Amoeba and outrun fossilization. Evolved Amoebas will be granted leaderboard status!




    It's a pretty hard speed platformer. If you ever played the carpet level in the classic Aladdin, or some of the other older speed memory games you will have fun with the challenge. If that style was never your thing then you may not like this game too much as it requires several replays and memorization.

    There is a screenshot with some advice if you REALLY want to make it on the leaderboard.


    Every piece of DNA evolves your Amoebic acid to be 10 faster in x-velocity. It also increases your speed cap by 10.

    Kicker: it increases the Walls velocity by 11 -3% of your velocity and increases the walls cap by 11. IT also stops the wall forcing it to re-accelerate.

    You should spend more time working on the "feeling" of your game.
    Here the controls feels "heavy" and unresponsive, and that hurts the fun in your game

    Thanks for the early feedback! I probably will not have time to adjust much of the controls though since it's Monday and I have to work on other stuff. Post LD I wil examine this and see how it effects the difficulty ramping. Also the controls tend to feel better after you have started evolving and can accelerate faster. Maybe I should adjust the decelleration inversly to the amount of possible DNA... eh I'll play with it after the JAM. THANKS AGAIN!

    I think your game is pretty fun, but I had a problem with the scenario. I'm having fun running like hell, thinking fast and jumping all around the level and, suddenly, I'm stuck in some wall. I feel you could improve the gameplay just avoiding this kind of obstacle. Anyway, good job!

    I agree with the others that the controls made it feel a little more difficult than it should have been, but fun game overall.

    controls are really unresponsive in firefox, i watched the sucessful run you linked on youtube also an that wall thing chasing you is WAY faster for me than it is in your video, it's basicly on my ass and im barely ahead of it even collecting every thing of DNA, first time you get to a spot you have to stop and jump back it's impossible to get by since you can barely keep in front of it.

    @Raptor85 Thank you for your feedback. i just tested in FF 14.0.1 on Linux and it was REALLY JERKY. if you come back try it in chrome or IE9 and I think it will be a much better experience for you. I don't want to touch anything internal to the game until the judging ends.

    Next LD I'll have to be sure to run the game in FF versions > 3

    I awarded you some mood points as there is something very nice about the minimalistic music and just having the little sound collecting the dna pieces.

    I guess the presentation juxtaposes calmness with the urgency of a runner-game. Very nice.

    Really like the synth pad sound. And the color theme.
    Yet I didn't succeed much so I doubt whether it's truly evolving later or not, I hope it does! :)

    Cool concept! I died so hard every time! haha. I think it could have had snappier controls, and of course audio would have made it better. Good work! :)

    @whilefun can I ask what browser was not delivering Audio? I've tested in FF, IE and chrome. I have not tested in Opera or Safari on mac.

    The part where you have to jump up and then backwards to get up and keep moving is crazy hard. Controls are a little iffy but great game.

    Great sound, fun art, a temple-run kind of feel. I found the controls a little too hard for me - too many do-or-die jumps, and I kept failing at them. I like the idea. I never got very far, even playing a number of times, but I enjoyed it - just wish it were a little easier.
