August 24th-27th 2012 :: Theme: Evolution
Note: This is my first LD
In post-compo i just fixed the text at intro by changing background(i plan on adding more content though). Recommended for people with bad eyesight!
You play as a little slime ball protecting his planet from the evil Khitleers from planet Natzee!
Haven't had time to fully test it. But it should work fine :)
Its windows only (very very sorry to mac and linux users!)
But reported to be fine on WinE(But with no sound) :D
Things to add in the future:-
-Goo cannon takes up a little bit of health to fire (as suggested)
-Random terrain generation
-A survival mode
-more levels and evolution stages
-evolution tree
**KNOWN BUGS**
-Eyesight evolution breaks goo cannon aim and text.Seems like only a few people got this though
- Few camera bugs

I really liked the music for this one.
The element of choice was really well-implemented in this (reminds me of Effin Worms, or that other game that's like it but better except the name totally escapes me right now), up to a point at least. The goo cannon seemed a bit OP; maybe because he's firing parts of his own organic material at the enemies, it could cost HP to use it, to balance it out?
Also, the eyesight evolution messed up the aiming and made the text unreadable. Definitely fix that one :C
I enjoyed playing it. My first thought when i got the cannon was that now its very easy. Then the spaceships came i was soon killed, a pleasent surprise :)
once the spaceships show up the game gets way intense! in a good way.
Like others have said, a little too much reading early on, especially for a game compo. Good, simple, game play. Overall liked this entry.
Won't run on my VM, something about my video card not having enough memory (it has 128 megs.)
Sorry to hear that Bob. Nice to see people enjoyed the game! I might have went overboard with the text at the beginning, but you could just spam the next button. :)
When I saw the screenshot, I didn't think this would be very good. But it's actually a really fun game.
Works fine on Linux, using Wine. Pretty fun game, and I agree, it needs some variance in the terrain or something. Also, I think you need a different color for the text at the beginning. The red/orange combination made my eyes hurt!
Very fun! Great gameplay. Please make the camera focus on the player more so you can see where you're going!
On my list of favorite Ludum Dare games for sure. Simple but fun. The camera was a bit annoying at times. Whenever I would move to the right I would end up right at the edge of the screen and get hit by bullets that I didn't see.
The Red on Orange text at the start was hard to read. Other than that, this was a pretty good game.
I enjoyed the gameplay, although it lacked variety at the end. Fun game!
Very fun , I especially liked to high-jump at spaceship to attack them.
Fun game. Liked it when I evolved immunity to lasers and the men ran away. Lovely touch.
My favorite game so far :) Really enjoyed the choices you had to make, nice work. Only thing I changed would be the jump physics, make them tighter to be avoid to pull off more tricky dodges.
Very nice, but the camera was a little frustrating. It was almost imposible to dodge bullets since you could so liitle ahead of you
The story/instructions were way too long, you probably didn't need any more instruction than was on the game's title screen.
I couldn't tell what the PSSSHHHHH noise was coming from but it was loud and actually a little painful to the ears.
That aside, I did enjoy playing this game. The slime trail was a pretty cool power!
Fun game, with lots going on. I liked the various upgrades. Goo cannon seemed way, way better than slime trail, although it seemed like my HP suffered a lot once I got the goo cannon - was that because you don't recover life from goo-ed guys? The WWII analogy was a little weird, and the red-on-brown text was eye-watering. Gameplay was fun and exciting, though. The final battle went on a very long time, and it was difficult to do anything other than just fire and try not to die - I couldn't figure out a good strategy there, or what the little "no affect" [sic] machine guns were doing. Nice work!
very well made, especially for a gamemaker game, it's actually unique and solid enough that without the intro you wouldnt even be able to tell ti was one. The controls are fluid, the graphics simple but work well with the game, and just about everything is great. One problem though is with color choice during the intro, red text on brown background and green text boxes is extremely hard to read, and i'm not even slightly colorblind. The fact that the mountain thing in the middle heals you isn't 100% obvious, wasn't until my third or fourth attempt i noticed that. Runs ok under WINE but no sound.
Gets ridiculously difficult at the end, but otherwise a pretty fun little 'king of the hill' style game.
I thought the graphics were endearing, really enjoyed the gameplay. People used to complain about gamemaker in the competition but people have made some great stuff with it, like this!
That was great fun. I really liked the evolving power ups and the game play in general.
That intro/instruction screen is way too long and useless. I can affirm it's useless because I didn't read it and had fun playing anyway. The game doesn't look very good but the gameplay mecanics are strong and it's really fun to play. Someone talked about an annoying woooosh sound, I agree with that.
Overall this is good!
Really liked the "better eyesight" evolution, and the audio was very good!
As a good fan of survival games I really liked this one. I really felt like evolving through the game. But the part where ships start to shoot at you was really hard!
Music is nice and fits the mood, but the introductory text was too long and had many typos. I'd advise on being more careful next time.
Overall good, congratulations. =)

Simple, but still satisfying. One thing that might make it a little more interesting would be some variance in the terrain, or maybe more of a projectile on the goo cannon. Still a fun game though.
Also, there's probably a little too much reading to begin the game. I read the first few pages, but it's probably unlikely that most people will read at all.
