Evolve & Conquer

by Ponte - 48 Hour Compo Entry

It is very incomplete due to lack of time. But it kinda works anyway. It is written in Java(and you'll need the last version of it to run!) so Windows version might work in the others too...

Eufloria kinda game with some evolution.
To send creatures, drag the mouse from a planet where you have any creature and drop it in another close planet.
In this game, you have to exterminate all your enemy's creatures from every planet. Each planet has it's own properties and your creatures will develop differently in each planet.

Amphibians are strong creatures and develop well when there's both water and land and normal temperatures;
Mammals are strong and need some water but prefer planets with good land;
Fishes are fast and reproduce quick and they develop in planets where water is abundant;
Birds are fast and develop well in both land and water but need nice temperatures;
Insects reproduce very fast and develop well in land;

Fun game, had a hard time finishing the enemy when he had only one planet left, but had fun anyway.

I like the graphics and the idea.
That's a fast paced game! Makes it hard.

I like the concept, but its difficult to keep up with the action with so much information. Its difficult to see at a glance what the creatures on each planet is up to. I think a more staged or turn based approach where you decide what actions to take up front would balance it better against the AI while the player learns the game. Maybe each planet could have had an action (Breed, Evolve, or Colonize) and the player could chose one of these actions each turn to advance.

I think my game crashed midway through, but pretty neat concept! Defeating the enemy is really quite a difficult task in and of itself, and the different types of lifeform are quite well thought out. I think the game could be improved if there were more visual representations of what lifeform inhabited what planet - when you're frantically dragging lifeforms to defend your planet checking the text can be quite bothersome.

Whenever I attack the enemy, his troop numbers increase, and all the troops I attack with perish. Had a planet stacked with 17000 troops, send it against a planet with 1000 or so. The enemy just has three planets, with a total troop count of about 2000. After my attack, the enemy planet has 10000 troops.

Seems as if the game is confused about who the troops belong to, and give them to the enemy istead of attcking him. Or my troops just really hate me, and all defect :(

Seems to be a few minor bugs but I really like this idea so I ignored them. Love to see a finalized version of it.

Hard to understand - planet has 17 enemies, I attacking the planet and planet has 1200 enemies.

Your game is not polished and I didn't understand everything, but wow! I love how you added something new (the evolution aspect) on a really classical gameplay!! I really think you should work on this idea and release a true game, easy to use, with this feature! I really liked it.

nice game -- pretty tuff tho

I couldn't really get into it. The list of text is just too much to read through while trying to play a fast paced game. All the player can really be concerned with is the number on each planet, and it was hard to work out how that actually affected things.

I tried a few times, but was never able to completely finish a game due to it crashing about halfway through. Seems like a neat concept, and I started to get the hang of the rules a bit after awhile.
