August 24th-27th 2012 :: Theme: Evolution
Moustache & Mukset is a rts game that involves a you commanding a small army of line infantry equipped with muskets and two cannons. You must defend the field and not lose more than 65 men while attempting to either kill or route the AI.
The theme evolution was incorporated by an AI that is meant to follow your moves and learn from them and evolve to be smarter. Unfortunately that is really hard to do. So...its not quite there.
Each package contains the normal game and then the version which will run better on slower pc's and macs. Source code is also uploaded.
Coded in c# using unity3d indie.

I think I ended up killing my own men haha. Was fun game liked the voice acting.
Unity crashed halfway through.
I like how there's friendly fire though.
But I still don't understand how to fire the cannons... do they fire automatically? I don't see any effects coming from them.
D: My inner Grammar Nazi exploded at the start screen...
The game is a nice idea, but even on the 'Low' version, it didn't run very well on my PC.
The controls weren't quite optimal. Aiming was very difficult, because the units simply didn't do what you wanted.
I liked the graphics style though :D
The highlight was definitely the Mister Bean voice-acting.
OK, now I've figured out the cannons.
I almost think this would work better with a gamepad interface - shoulder buttons to select a unit, left stick to move it, right stick to choose its facing, trigger to fire.
Still, it was quite good fun despite the control issues. Not very thematic, but fun nonetheless.
You should rename it "Hats: Total War". Or "Empire: Total Hats". Or something.
The concept is cool, I think if you continue to refine the AI you'll have a nice game. I might tweak the camera controls a little bit too, maybe set a max zoom out. But overall I think the gameplay is fun.
Thanks everyone. Hats: total made me lol. Sorry about the grammar it was almost 3 in the morning when I did it.
I decided to continue making this into more of a proper game and am working on controlling in. I personally feel lots of the fun come from how hard it is to control and accidentally shooting your own men in the process.
Shaders are nice. The voices sounded kind of disturbing to me. But overall, fine work for 48 hours !
Btw, why didn't you used GUI.Label instead of GUI.Button for instructions? :D
Interesting looking troops! The "Mr.Bean"-like voices were a little funny. Controls were difficult though, wasn't sure what to do (yeah... I'm bad at reading instructions lol). Nice little blood effects and cool to watch all the soldiers shoot at the same time.
Not sure if it's because of the Toon Shader, but it runs quite slow.
Devaki, I used button entirely because it was late and I was insanely tired. I know its bad design but I just couldnt stand being up any later. I got lazy!
chamberlainpi, The shaders dont help but the slowdown is a mix of a few things. Really bad design on my part to be honest. The way I did sounds was very bad and should be frowned, Ill write it all up in my post mortem in a few days.
Very nice RTS style game in 48 hours. I did not seem to have any slowdown, but I am playing on a pretty nice machine.
It's pretty impressive to see an RTS entry!
I could stand the somewhat bad controls but I never could figure out how to fire the canons with any regularity and that was frustrating.
Overall, though, good job!

Nice job. A little difficult to control, but looks great.
