Slug evolution

This is my first Ludum dare and I forgot about it at the start so I was partially rushed through some of it because I wanted to meet the 2 day deadline. But then I missed it and had to switch to the 3 day jam.

This idea randomly came to me and I decided to just work with it making it up as I went along.

The basic Idea is that you have a family of slugs that you try to evolve into better slugs. You have to try to keep them alive then get them to mate with other slugs to get better slugs that can do better skills so you can keep them alive.

You can train the slugs to do different jobs but it costs resources to train them. The jobs starve the slugs and sometimes use resources to do the different jobs.

You also have to watch out for the salt storms. If one hits one of your slugs then it has a chance to partially starve that slug.

If you have soldiers the stronger they are reduces the chance that a slug will be starved, also making a blacksmith work to make better stuff for your soldiers will reduce the chance that a slug is starved by a salt storm.

A farmer will take 1 resource and be starved by 2 points to make food depending on its strength.

A Miner will be starved by 3 points to make resources depending on its strength.

A blacksmith will take up 4 food and 10 resources to decrease the chance that a slug will be starved by a salt storm depending on its strength.

The color of the slugs have nothing to do with its skills. Mating 2 slugs will take 5 resources and create a new slug with different skills.

Seems like a cool idea, but it seemed like a most the features were not working properly. Clicking on any of the buttons other than pause did nothing, and I could not type a name into the name field. Keep working on, and hopefully I'll get to try a more polished version later on. I'd love to play this game when it's finished.

Slugs keep dying at alarming pace, nigh impossible to play.

Would've probably worked out better being turn-based, by the time I manage to select 2 slugs at-least one's dead already.

First off I made it so that you couldn't press any of the buttons while in pause because that would have made it to easy. Second if you get started out right it turns out to be fairly easy but if you don't it get's really hard. I really should have spent more time on the game play but I was rushing though most of it

this game is good.
or at least ALOT better than what i saw.
good job, but your game, like alot other, lack music.
even for a jam? sooo about either 24 hours were spent on either thinking, graphics, or programming.

Cool idea, but it seems like pressing the buttons does nothing. Except for naming the slugs, assigning them occupations and feeding them - nothing worked, and what did work didn't make a difference. They all died, time after time. The lack of music and sound effects really makes it quite boring and stresses the overall feel that nothing is happening. But again - cool idea, I would love to play it once it is fixed.
