April 20th-23rd 2012 :: 10 Year Anniversary! :: Theme: Tiny World
My tiny world is the one where all the bacterias can live happy far from the cleaning stuff. Just behind your forniture :)
This is a turn-game where you're supposed to fill of bacterias the kitchen of a really obsessive maid
before she decides to move all the forniture to kill you.
You can win in 2 ways:
- Build the ultimate bacteria which can resist even the terrible maid
- Conquer 95% of the forniture's back
But remember that the maid will arrive sooner or later, so you've to hurry!
Since i wanna keep updating the project with your advices i've put online a second version which is not going for the competition. If you like the game and want to see how it's going you can go there, otherwise just check the "web" version.

I like the concept, a sort of mix between Game of Life and a strategical game.
Few things that requires improvement:
- rules behind production and usage of resources not really clear (tutorial here should be
improved but probably also rules might be simplified).
- difficulty need to be tuned (it seems really to easy to win)
- undo action really needed
- some aspect of UI could be improved
- few bugs to solve (resources update and explorer behavior)
- "bacteria" is used bot for resources as for element to build in the game
- bacteria icon is the same of "Big Boss"
Thanks actually I'm going to fix only minor bug for this release, so i've changed the icon of "points" and even their name into "organic matter" so maybe that is less confusing.
Actually I've tested the game on an android browser and yet it kinda works. The only limit is that you can't travel around the table but it's still possible to finish the game by building the big boss! A cool side affect of working with html :)
the concept was cool, definitely needed an undo button but it was okay. i hated the internet memes though, not really sure why they were there?
I was attracted by the memes ;D The gameplay is fun but need long time to understand first. Maybe you can make a step by step level for tutorial.
Actually i put some memes cause i'm really bad in drawing and they're a simple way to explain a story. I mean if I wanna express anger with my drawings I can't while with a fuuuu image everybody are going to understand :)
I'll try to add an undo-button.
For the tutorial my first intent was to have an in-game tutorial but then i runned out of time :(
I tought that to have an in-game tutorial i would have to add some middle-objectives or some achivement (something like ok, you've created a new bateria wow you get an achivement) but then it was too much to do in too little time, so i created a "fixed" tutorial.
I'm going to wait for more response, then I wanna talk live with some of my friends, create better rules and then try to come out again.
Added the "undo button".
I limited the undo activity to the current turn.
Very nice game! :).. The gameplay maybe it's a little bit slow, but i think it's part of the game philosophy! Very useful and detailed tutorial... Epic the game over screen :D
I like the game mechanics and theme. Overall, it was a good game, it just was annoying to have to scroll to see the whole screen, the looping music was a bit annoying, and having to replace each bacteria one by one was tedious. However, these were all kinda minor (other than the scrolling maybe) and the core mechanics kept me playing =]. Though from the thumbnail I thought the game was going to be a game where you played a woman in her small world (the kitchen). Little sad, cause damn that would be an awesome theme.
Interesting game. I was hoping for a little bit more strategy involved--I just kept playing more Productive germs every turn until I had enough for the Boss, and then I won. I think that in the future, addition of more maps to add a more "strategic" component would strengthen this.
Good game, but a little hard to get into at first! The music got a bit annoying too.. yet it was still good enough to make me play it a couple of times until I got myself a BIG BOSS!
I was thinking on some way to increase the strategical component.
At first I would change the values of cost/production. In the end you should be able to produce no more then 2 bacteria from one. so if it cost 10 then in 5 turn you'll produce 20.. Then the resources on board sooner or later must disappear cause they've been used (and maybe new ones appears somewhere else). Then i would change the values of food need.. I mean right now the only way to kill a bacteria for no-nutrition is to sorround it with other bateria or something like that.. so it's not so hard to keep them alive.. Do you have any advice on this?
I don't think you're allowed to use stock photography (memes included)
I used it only in the first screen of tutorial.. Btw I'm going to remove it since that's not even part of the game. All the other art have been drawed in inkscape so they're ok.
For 48 hours you're supposed to use only your own assets created during the compo. If you've drawn the anger face and photographed the kitchen, I apologize. Otherwise it's against the rules.
Just removed it don't worry. I wanna my work judged for what is it, that stuff was just secondary.
"the terrible maid will die when she sees the big boss"
She must have awesome eyesight! =o
Fun game, could be harder. Maybe if the cleaner wasn't a threat coming soon but she just occasionally wiped areas that were overcrowded with bacteria - ensuring you spread them out or something?
From the looks of the comments you've added an undo button and stuff after the compo? You're not really supposed to change anything except game-breaking bugs in the version that people are supposed to be judging =/
I see, that was my original plan, to have the maid cleaning random areas (actually over-crowsed areas of bacteria should die due to lack of food).
I've put two different version so I can continue develop your advices without disturbing any more the competition I hope..
Ah yeah, forgot about the food resource when posting.
Putting the post-compo version up there is the best way to do it yeah :D
Played the compo version again so I could rate properly =D
Next time I'll do it immediately, sorry but i'am still a newbie of ludum dare..
Nice, I like the music, and the tradeoff between exploration and production. I only played the original version, so maybe you already changed this, but it takes way too long to place 80 bacteria, which is what I was doing each turn at the end. I think you should have it so that you click on a bacteria type and then can click on empty squares to keep placing them.
I don't see why I needed to scroll the board, especially since it was easy to win with just the visible board.

Don't forget to have a look to my development diary, I had fun writing it :)
