April 20th-23rd 2012 :: 10 Year Anniversary! :: Theme: Tiny World
a small planet is being menaced by alien pirates, and only Apocalypse Inc. has the tools/style to help.
WASD - move
left mouse - shoot
scroll wheel - change weapon
right mouse - open build menu
fight the aliens, build/protect your base, and rescue the natives.
ran into some problems early on with this one, so there are a lot of features that are blatantly missing here. the most major feature left out is a display for how much each building costs
health mill :: 5,000
money dispenser :: 10,000
turret :: 2,500
little person factory :: 10,000
escape rocket :: 7,500

I like the building features and the graphics are also cool looking :D
If the little pirate aliens are going to cause you damage, they probably shouldn't be able to spawn exactly where you are standing D: ouch. Gets pretty hard to build and shoot once the place gets swarmed D:
Fun game, the curved nature of the tiny world actually works against you by blocking your bullets! Nice touch =D
I enjoyed playing your game. Of course the graphics are the highlight of your game, good job.
Interesting idea. I like the visual concept. Becomes quite difficult once you start building stuff.
I like the visuals, but I don't know how to build anything. I can open the build menu, but no matter what I try to select, I only end up shooting.
This game is quite difficult to play with a trackpad and usually I stood there waiting for the pirates to come to me :-D
Love the graphical style.
Gameplay was quite fun but I'd have liked to be able to jump the aliens in addition to shooting, for when being swarmed from both sides.
The best presentation I've seen in LD23 so far, with solid gameplay that fits the theme.
What bothers me most is that monsters can spawn right next to you, I think they should only spawn off-screen so you'd have some time to react.
"cactus game"
The gunshot noise got annoying after a while.
Ah, nice job! Played the compo game and the post-compo one. Really great! If the buildings are destroyed after a while, what would you think about putting a little health bar over them, so that you can see what their health is? Only other thought is to maybe reduce the volume of the rockets/shooting just a tad? You get a ton of 'em going and it gets a little deafening. However, you at least have sound in the game which is great! And kudos to having an icon for the EXE! Oh, and message at death: priceless! Thanks for making this!
Definitely one of my favorites, I really liked the visual style and the idea. I'd like to see some more variety (surprises), some music and a more gradual difficulty curve.
Congrats! :)
Score: 1602
Played both versions of it, the game is amazing, yet very difficult. It really inspires me to do something more original with the art style next time. I found the mechanics good and loved building stuff, but I didn't realize there was a score in the first playthroughs, so I wasn't much sure of what the goal of the game was. Then I realized it was infinite play (right?)
Sending townspeople into the rocket was very satisfying! Especially when I could fill the 20-person limit =)
Congrats!
Not bad. Not bad at all. Would have been good to have the score currently on the screen. I thought it was a little easy though, I could go on for ages (and it was addictive enough to do so).
Awesome! Had some fun with it even though I wasn't sure what I was doing in the beginning! Pretty graphics too!
Very good. Shooting sound effect is the only thing I actually didn't like - this and that there's no source code anywhere to be found. If it's a compo entry, I'd like to see the source.
The game crashes whenever I kill an alien? Urgh... I really wanted to play it, too. :(
I should reply to some of these.
first of all: thanks everyone! for playing the game and liking it and stuff. I was surprised that the graphics were so well received (#12!)
@SonnyBone
that's really weird. it could be because of the blood effect, which was really sloppily made. I'll probably add an option to turn that off in the future, if you'd be willing to keep an eye on the devlog: http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=25753.0
@marudziik
I didn't see that source code was required this time around. unfortunately, the original gmk has been saved over with the edits that I made afterward, but feel free to decompile it or whatever. I have nothing to hide.
@chambers & @Maple
I seem to have a problem leaving the score off the screen when I make score-based games o:
I'll definitely add that, though I'm not sure if this will stay score-based in the future.
glad to hear that the rocket ship stuff was satisfying -- I was hoping it would be.
@cltatman
the difficulty curve is pretty fucked at the moment. I'm currently working on adding music and variation in the newer versions of the game.
@R3ason
there actually is a health bar :0
they're on the lower halves of each building. maybe I should make them stick out more.
@Jiggawatt
yeah, making the enemies not just spawn randomly was something that I ran out of time for. in the current version they fall in from the top of the screen.
I'll definitely be taking into account everyone's feedback for later versions of the game, so thanks for trying it.

- Everything looks so pretty! :o
- I don't know what are some buildings for, but I liked the building feature.
