April 20th-23rd 2012 :: 10 Year Anniversary! :: Theme: Tiny World
Finding Yourself is a game about finding yourself. "Fancy bumping into you here! It's a small (I mean tiny) world!", you'll say.
It's a platformer. There's 15 levels. Stats are recorded and saved, so you can continue playing later on if you get tired for the time being.
The controls are shown as you play the first few levels, but whatever:
You use the arrow keys, D, and... If it so be, ESC. :(
You can also press F4 to toggle Fullscreen, and F9 saves a screenshot in the location of the game.
Source file is a .gm81 file.
I ended up using Game Maker, SFXR, Pxtone (for one sound), Autotracker-bu for music, MS Paint and Paint.net for Graphics. Funfact: I made the font used in this game (with http://fontstruct.com/) over a year ago with the initial "Finding Yourself" idea in mind. The font can be downloaded here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6478756/Misc/shake.ttf
Enjoy, and tell me where I went wrong!

Wow. This is hard and it has this special "What? I won't beat this game?" feeling. Well done! Addictive and enjoyable. I love the respawning.
Really fun game. The movement felt very responsive and it was difficult but not impossible. Nice and challenging. I did get stuck on level 10 however. Though I enjoyed it a lot!
Well done!
The player's abilities compliment each other well and are very interesting spatially. The rain and solid color tiles make for a cool, minimalist aesthetic. Great work.
My record is 59 seconds. Really fun game, but, being always critical I have a few gripes:
-The difficulty curve is very steep
-The character sprite looks... odd, to say the least.
-Some of those keys... maaan... you crazy.
-Purple, gradient background colour?
-No way to toggle the music.
It reminds me of knytt. Enjoyed it quite abit :) Might've been nice if the character was abit larger,
Alax, I cannot play, as I have a mac. Would have been nice though!
I really like this. I like the music and sound, and I love that you have a choice in controls. its really hard and in the case of this game its a good thing. I like how there is an easy and hard way to get through and the hard way gets you the key. Good Job!
It is a little bit hard for me. There is a lot of work.
the univers is cool, good game :)
Neat little game - looks good, sounds good. Unfortunately I don't have the patience/reflexes to see this one through, it's very difficult.
I've beaten the game. I finished the game in 11 minutes with 4 keys and 155 deaths. And I don't want to set a new record!
Even without looking at comments I knew most of them would say it is hard.
I suck at platformers so it was way too hard for me. Gameplay feels very smooth and complete thanks to double jump and dash.
As stated many times already, this is a really difficult game. I couldn't get all that far. The levels really require you to stop and think for a while tho, which is good. Somehow I do like the visuals tho. Some of the controls seem a bit odd, but I suppose that at least one of the several options will always be acceptable. It is really nice that you managed to add a Load game feature as well btw. Really nice progress for such a short development time.
I was really getting into the game and trying to find a way to get all the keys, but the game crashed on me on screen 4. I'm also having a really hard time with the wall jumps that you seem to have to make to get up to that key.
Really my one criticism right now is that the wall jumping mechanic seems to make the game harder than it needs to be. On screen 2 I frequently found myself ricocheting back to the left on my dash, while grabbing that key, because of the wall hanging, and because once the player wall hangs he cannot change his facing.
I don't really have the wherewithal to keep going with this steep a difficulty curve, but I have to give you credit for making these some ingeniously difficult puzzles.
It's very hard! Such games need absolutely perfect controls (like Super Meat Boy), but they're lacking here :(

Impressively hard, I liked it but you need to be an ace with these kind of game which I ain't. Good game though, some good and well chosen mechanics.
