April 20th-23rd 2012 :: 10 Year Anniversary! :: Theme: Tiny World
I had to cut out a lot of features and additional content I had planned to add (more interesting enemies, powerups, SOUND, MUSIC, etc) about 2 hours from the end.
I haven't programmed anything in this short a timeframe before and it kinda shows, and I'm still learning C++, but obviously I learned a lot.
In hindsight I probably spent too much time on the engine at the beginning, and I'll probably be using something ready-made next time.
There is a game in there... somewhere. I hope someone enjoys it, at least as much as I did making it.
(Also, in case anyone cares, the title is a play on "Pediculosis", which is an infestation of lice.)
EDIT: I updated this slightly, see journal entry here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2012/04/26/rediculosis-final/

The game could need some polishing for sure, but it's playable. The whole thing was confusing initially but I soon realized the challenge and depth of it.
I think the game could be really awesome if it was a bit faster, I felt a bit like a was just waiting for that bar to fill up, instead of playing a game. If those things are fixed, it could be a really nice game.
"Firing a secretion costs blood" LOL.
A really weird but interesting little game! With some p0olish it could become really popular. Something about living the life cycle of a small gross little insect that sucks blood, fires 'secretions' and lays eggs is just appealing. Or maybe that's just me. ;/
I like how you move slower when your behind is stuffed full of eggs, by the way!
Thanks for the feedback guys, it's really helpful. I will be releasing an improved (read "finished") version sometime soon.
UUU a simple innovative game! :)
I like the graphics of the insects, but I would have liked if there was a background. :/
Anyway the game have a good playability and a good difficulty scale! Yellow insects are relly annoying! :D
Good game, just it would be better adding just a score at finish of each level :)
Some cool ideas, but a bit too easy, and probably not enough things to do. It sounds like those were coming, though. No doubt you were struck by the old time limit problem that hit us all :)
I found the levels played the same. Maybe set the walking guys on predefined paths, and make the shooter guys shoot in patterns, both unique for every level.
@demonpants: I would love to port it to Mac but I have no experience in porting to Mac. Sorry :(
the first level with no enemies was a total GRIND to clear...running back and forth and back and forth, could have used less repetition
Well, the beginning i thought that the game would be fun. It turned out that it just is too slow. Besides that, it WAS fun.
I had the inverse problem in my entry: the game was too fast. But remember, making a game in 24h is no easy task!
