April 20th-23rd 2012 :: 10 Year Anniversary! :: Theme: Tiny World
This was meant to be a very different game but I ran out of time so had to rush something at the last moment. The result is playable but simple.

I originally wanted every pixel to take you to a unique but fixed world. On each world you were to collect strange creatures and plants. After collecting I intended to have the player place them in their own Pixel-life zoo. The zoo would get quite colourful after a while and the creatures or plants would breed with each other to create new life.
When I started to create the creatures and plants in Photoshop I realised it was going to take to long. I was already tired from not sleeping much Friday night so I backtracked, ditched some of the partially made content and went for something simple and quick.
Interesting concept underlying it - I like the mystical pixelverse idea. I wish there were more to do than just play whack-a-mole once you got there though :-)
You know, I found this charming. I particularly like the zoom pixel button effect, and feel like there's really something here that could be uncovered with proper probing and work.
+Liked the title page music. In game sfx a little limited.
+Great presentation
+Smoothly implemented
-Found game a bit too easy. Perhaps having a time limit would help?
-A little disappointing that after great build-up, game was pretty basic whack-a-mole
Coolest theory ever ;p never would have though i was drawing bad monsters and fake monsters on the screen ;p Fun game!
We all know how the time limit feels. :) You have great stuff going with the idea and the effects, and it is a complete game. Lack of variation between pixel planets and general whack-a-mole-ness means it lost my interest fairly quickly, which is a pity.
The android version is soooo nice!
The gameplay it's a little repetitive but it's funny to tap things, probably on desktop it's not so good as on a phone.
Cute game. Agreed with the other commenters about the pixelverse idea being cool. I liked the intro. The whack-a-mole definitely could have used a time limit, or something.
Very slick presentation! The zooming in was really cool.
But I kinda have to agree about datahaven's "whack a mole" comment. It really didn't fit. The collecting game sounds far more fun and in line to the build up, but I can understand running out of time on these sorts of things.
Cool, really like the idea - pixels or some giant collection of things where each one gives you something different by providing a different random seed. The wack-a-mole planets were well done but only hold the attention for so long unfortunately :)
Strangest intro to a game of whack a mole EVER! Hands down. In fact, I'm giving you a medal for just that. :D
I'd be interested in playing the more developed version if you do it--the pixel-zooming thing is pretty cool. Maybe have the picture be an atanomically correct figure, and have the training levels you-know-where. :D
Thanks for the award. That made my day and has had me smiling and chuckling for the last 1/2 hour. :D
The whac-a-mole decision is what came of asking myself, "Given only a few hours left in LD and no game yet, what's the quickest and easiest thing you could pull off just to finish?" My first idea was an animation of a giant monster suddenly attacking the screen but I figured that's not *really* a game.
Very simple and addictive type of game even if we stop playing quickly.
I regret the aesthetic difference between the galaxy of pixel painted and the characters we have to smash.
A very, very nice use of the theme. Graphics are okay. Game is... simple ^^ (and very unexpected, too)
This game makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. But in a good way.
I love how the utter silliness of the eventual game contrasts with the serious intro.
The pixelverse is a great idea. It's a pity that you ran out of time and had to rush the implementation of individual levels. Still enjoyed playing it.
I like the style in general, and the intro music is cool. There's not much to do as we've all said, but the ideas are there and it's certainly original :)
The pixverse part is really starting a good vibe, but then the click-mini game is a rather letdown. The idea was probably too ambitious.
Maybe you could build upon the basic idea?
Loved the title music. Everything was awesome until I got to the game part, then it was simple yet still playable for a few rounds. You really imparted a sense of scale during the zooming in.
I loved the animations and the concept. I think you got a bit ambitious and the gameplay suffered as a result, but this is another fantastic case of a game that would be a fantastic candidate for some post-compo love.

Just out of curiosity, what was the game supposed to be like? In any case, I think you did a good job of making something complete, even though it's not how you wanted it to be.
