Super World of Progress Achievement

by SevenForce - Jam Entry

Sadly, our game isn't remotely finished, but here it is anyway. I wonder if anyone is interested in seeing it developed further in the future. We'd really like to complete it.

This was our first jam, and the first time we've attempted to make a full game together. The main focus of the project was to learn how to make games in HTML5 and to get experience in pixel asset creation. Though the game wasn't finished, we learned a heck of a lot and had loads of fun.

The idea was to present a world in which the only currency is "progress" (the stuff that fills bars). To the inhabitants of this world, achieving progress is all that matters in life.

It was intended to be a satire on the current state of 'achievement'-based game design - especially within MMOs - where some players can be compelled to feel that their game world is more important than the real one, when in fact, it is 'tiny' in comparison.

In its current state, it's a simple demonstration of basic platform mechanics and tile rendering in HTML5. In the future, there will be an ultra-compelling level-up mechanic, NPCs to talk to, and hopefully an ending of sorts.

One of the biggest lessons learned during the Jam was that no matter how small you think your idea is - it's still pretty big.

Aaaw, I would like to see this more completed to be able to rate it properly, but looks fun!

Unfinished and very glitchy (I walked on air, fell through platforms, after jumping the character won't walk before tapping the arrow key again).

But graphics are very nice indeed :)

Textured tiles plus vignetting plus blur filter is gorgeous. Game itself seemed too busted to play though. The appleheads kept colliding with invisible platforms in the sky, and the game feel for movement was wonky -- I couldn't jump while moving (Ubuntu Chrome). The character design and art direction are cool enough to pursue this, I would think. But with the busted-eyness of the movement and collision and the lack of audio I only played a few minutes.

Looks great. Unfortunately unplayable because of skywalk.
