Can you impress the other insect judges with your Flea's acrobatics?
"It's like American Idol: Tony Hawk's Pro Pokemon Contest Edition"
Definitely start out with the Tutorial, it'll give you the basics. This will be an easier game for you if you've played an extreme sports game.
This idea came from my girlfriend, so "Thanks, Honey :)". Other sources of inspiration: Tony Hawk and Pokemon (the GenIII games, specifically contests).
Had a fun time at my first Ludum Dare, glad I got something finished :)

Hey fellow Flea Circus lover! Good job on the game design. My third round saw me do some crazy antics and get high scores, that was quite fun. Love the judges, too.
On the flip side, it was hard to see the flea. Maybe the floor could be pushed farther down, and a white outline would help him pop more. And I confused the Front Flip (A?) with the Combo (D). It felt like Combo should be the middle button. BUUUUT that's a minor issue. Good job!
Thanks for the kind words, all!
Interesting fact: the dimensions of the screen are the same as the Gameboy Advance (but zoomed out x2) because that's the platform Pokemon Ruby was released on- which inspired part of this game.
Oreganik:
I think more screen real estate in general would help this game. And for the final release, it'll have it.
I plan on fleshing out the game and taking the design further. I'll use the voting to know what strengths to focus on.
hahahah, thats epic. Takes time to master! Good work man, very original.
It's quite funny! And it's a very original idea! good job :)
Great idea for a game! Theme fits, music is perfect, sound effects are ncie and graphics are sweet :) No complaints here! I love that you can button mash, too. My final score? 566,580 :P 4/5!
This is what I like to see in a Ludum Dare game. Totally unlike anything I have ever conceived, fun to play and slightly mad. YES
Clever idea, really well executed too. I'm the king of faceplanting.
Great idea! I wouldn't call the button-mashing potential a way to "abuse" it, though. Good scope for a 48-hour project, too. Not too daring, but still resulted in something that's a lot of fun. Good job.
I really liked this and the music was great! The judges were great too.
I absolutely love this! Doing tricks and timing them was fun, and getting rated was a nice bonus. I thought the flea was a smidgen hard to see since it was black against a dark red background. But it was lots of fun, great job! :)
yeah button mashing didnt really work for me! enjoyed it all the same though.
I love the idea and execution. :D Like the others said, needs more contrast, and the flea appears in front of the curtain at the sides a little.
This game is so much fun! Good choice in music. Super cute graphics. The controls were easy to figure out. A1 job!!
Cool. Did you make the music too in such a short time period? That was really cool!
This is really funny and awesome! The mantis (or grasshopper) is totally Simon Cowell. I ended with around 15000 points and I'm a little guilty of button-mashing to produce enormous chains.
As a few others have said it'd be a lot easier to see what's going on if there was a bit more contrast between the background and the player. That said the presentation is very nice! The graphics are easy on the eyes, its palette is nice and rich and the music is fun and a really good mood-setter.
Really cute, amazing solo job you did in the 48 hours! :) I'd like to see more games from you, this one is really interesting and fun.
hahaha, lovely and quite original. Judges are great, although their comments didn't vary that much for me. Perhaps they could have a couple of phrases for the same thing but you can randomly use one or the other.
Anyway, I had fun with your entry, good job dude.
With all the inspirations you mentioned, I can't believe this wasn't influenced by california games - This feels exactly like the hacky sack game from that. Really good, tight scope. Could completely see this being a set of related games.
Cool game, I had a lot of fun with it for how small it is. The flea is kind of hard to see, would have been nice to see a camera track it or just a really tall game window.
I also think that the flea is not visible enough on that background. It's a very good entry anyway, and the music is great, but it needs some polish and more levels.
This is a great game, had a fun time learning it and getting the tricks down but it lacked more tricks. That and it was hard to see the player sprite against the shadows from the background. Other than that, this game has everything going for it. Funny setting, good atmosphere.
Interesting... once I did a corkscrew or something I think, but I had no-idea how or how to do it again. Still pretty good, great music, and mood. :D
One critism: The background and bug don't contrast nearly enough, so unfortunately this game doesn't do that well for graphics. :C
Haha, very inventive and fun :) Reminded me of when I used to like Tony Hawk, many many years ago!
This was a fun little game. The controls took some getting used to, but the idea is there and finished. It would be cool to see some more variety in this, but this is a great start for 48 hours of work.

Well done!
