April 20th-23rd 2012 :: 10 Year Anniversary! :: Theme: Tiny World
A 2D game where you have to remove all the 'bacteria' from the area as a white blood cell named Phil
collide with bacteria to ingest them, remove all bacteria to complete the game
CONTROLS:
WASD/Arrow keys - control Phil
P - Pause/Unpause the game
R - Restart the game
Esc - Quit the game
HINTS:
- Cocci (Spherical bacteria) spawns at a slower rate than the Bacilli (Rod bacteria)
Decide for yourself which is best to attack first
- Once there are alot of bacteria, it will be hard to keep up with their reprodcution
rate, it is advised to try and herd them like sheep into bunches
- If a bacterium is near a cell wall it may reproduce into the wall, this child
bacterium will spawn at a random location in the area, therefore you want to try
to keep bacteria away from the cell walls
- Cocci reporduces in hexagonal patterns in random directions, while the Bacilli
will reproduce in an upwards branching direction
- You're not getting any younger! As such a small organism, you have a limited life
span, and are unable to reproduce at the rate of these dirty youngsters!
- it's also a drain on yourself to take out bacteria, so don't waste time on wild
goose chases, quick plan of action is needed for victory!

appologies:
If you're a microbiologist or have some sort of knowledge on the subject, you may possibly be
offended by how terribly inaccurate my game is with regards to microbiology, so sorry
if it does offend. However, ever more sinsere appologies if said game is so unenjoyable
that it offends you. This is my first shot at a game from scratch by myself with
minimal planning and experience.
If on the other hand you did somehow enjoy this game, then I'm exceptionally happy that
it was able to be enjoyable for you.
I advise you start of on easy to get a feeling for how the cells and bacterium interact and then once you have the hang of it, try the harder difficulties.
the score is based off your remaining life to the power of the difficulty. If you lower your difficulty in game this will affect your score and if you knockup your difficulty ingame, the change will be ignored (as you have a larger lifespan)
I've uploaded a screenshot of my current best, feel free to try to top it

Was interesting and i played for awhile but eventually stopped since i didn't seem to have any goal or way to win. I really liked the audio interjections and i think the game could've used a bunch more
Interesting concept, but it needed more game. Felt like I was just randomly racing around eating bacterium, without a real goal. Pretty fun trying to keep all the bacteria off the screen, but it felt pretty impossible to get them all off at once.
Audio comments were funny. I tried to play the game several times on normal and then easy mode, but as far as I could tell the game is unwinnable, to the point that anything you do is futile. With a little more work into balancing it could have been a lot better, I think.
Congrats on completing your first game jam! =)
High five MadGnomeGamer. Does that mean it's you who steals the 'Skully' user names on sites? :P
to the people struggling to complete it: It's definitely possible to complete, remember to keep the bacteria away from the sides as that's where they go to spawn at a random location, they bacteria will begin to group together
cheers regardless though for giving my game a shot
Hard game if a bacterium sneaks near a wall. The voices were very entertaining!
The difficulty curve could use some adjustment. If you take too long to destroy all of the bacilli, their spawn time increases exponentially and then you basically are screwed. They spawn to the max, and regain whatever you kill right after you kill it. Also, hard difficulty should just be renamed to "impossible." :P
But overall, it was a pretty fun, charming game.
Yeah, I was tempted, but then I managed to complete it on hard, consider it a challenge to those who refuse to be beaten by a game ;)
Loved Phil's voice. Shazam! (btw. shazam is defined by urbandictionary as "Exclamatory phrase used when striking an unsuspecting victim in the genitalia with a foreign apparatus such as a back scratcher or a crow bar." :D)
As you can't seem to win it it would be cool if there was a score so you could at least battle for the highest one.
Just read some of the other comments and apparently you can win and I am just too dumb. Challenge accepted!
Once I realised what I was meant to do it just took a bit of time to win. The real challenge is keeping the red bastards away from the walls so they don't magically appear somewhere else before you doa full sweep of them.
LOL Skully it probably is! I used to be SkullSoft, too, until I found out some other software developer had that name and a website to back it up. :P
And now I know who else is stealing the nickname on those sites, too. :D
Can't extract it! I use PeaZip to try and extract weird formats, but it keeps breaking it down into a billion little components.
Great start! Would be cool to see this developed further! Liked the audio. Thanks!
Really nice game, I liked the voice bits, but the game seemed to get a little dull after a while.
The red ones seem to be spawning randomly even if I keep the walls clear... maybe I'm missing something, but I just seem unable to get the numbers down, the bacilli stays at 100, I eat one, and another instantly spawns somewhere keeping the number the same at all times =/
Good concept, good interp of the theme, can't get much tinier than this :P
Liked the graphics & theme, and the way the bacilli grew (very organic looking). Gameplay could have used some more elements though. The creepy auto-voice was pretty funny (deadpan "sha, zam." :)
I hope you know that 7z is not the most popular archive format out there...
The concept is nice but it needs some balancing. I think the main thing that is wrong with it is that the game can become unwinnable long before you actually die, and when this happens the game becomes very boring.
Baconilli always get out of hand. I guess the difficulty curve ran away from me and I couldn't cahtch up.
Booya! I finally managed to complete it on easy! A couple things you could add are maybe a mini map/heat map. Another would be some kind of warning for when the bacteria are touching the wall. Although sometimes they seemed to spawn randomly as if they were touching the wall but I was being careful to not let them touch. I think the movement of the camera could be improved, maybe if you're in the centre.
